Nuestro Cachorro
Our Puppy
[English Version]
As I wrote in my first post about Maxi (our Schnauzer puppy), I didn't plan to have a pet, but at the same time I didn't know how much I needed a 4-legged companion at home to join our family. We are now 6 months old with Maxi and a few things at home have changed since then.
Although a life with children can be beautifully chaotic, in a way it also happens when we have pets that demand attention, some animals like cats may not demand so much attention, they are more independent and in many cases if they don't see their owners for several hours they don't care, however, in the case of dogs (at least most of them) they are uncomfortable being alone for a long time, being locked in the same place causes stress and all this ends up affecting the personality of the canine and can become an aggressive animal.
Having a family of only 3 plus our four-legged pet, our schedules change in order to take care of our puppy. Jobs and errands have to be shortened to get home earlier so that our puppy doesn't feel lonely for too long. Likewise, when we get home the first thing my wife does is take him for a walk to release energy.
Demanding for attention.
It is interesting how this kind of pets demand attention and affection from their owners, in Maxi's case, he wants to be cuddled all the time, and if as parents we cuddle him or play with Camila, the puppy also tends to participate by licking and showing us affection with a lot of joy and enthusiasm. Maxi participates in saying good morning to Camila, as she is normally the last one to get up, if I go to say good morning to my daughter, the puppy normally participates, something quite funny to see, as he knows the exact moment to wake up Camila, but he participates with a lot of emotion at every moment.
Intelligent companion.
Something that surprises me about this breed is that they are quite intelligent to the point of comparing them with small children from a point of view of understanding, they recognise their name different words, one of the characteristics that surprises me is when they do some mischief and they are scolded (although more than a scolding is to indicate them that they should not do something, but with a tone of authority). The puppy knows he has done something wrong and lowers his ears, ducks his head and goes quickly under the bed, just as if we were talking about a small child who then locks himself in his room.
Sometimes he is nibbling on Camila's old toys, at other times on some medicine boxes and even sheets of paper that may be documents. While he is chewing he doesn't know if he is doing something accepted by us or if we are going to scold him, so he watches us while he tries to hide his actions pretending as if nothing is happening, the truth is something very funny that sometimes even prevents us from giving the puppy enough character, however, he is such an intelligent companion that he behaves very well, we can't say that our puppy is naughty, he is just cheerful and energetic.
6 months
It's been 6 months since we got Maxi and we must be attentive to his health, vaccination, feeding and everything related to his care, both physical and psychological, as if we were talking about a child, but obviously in a lesser degree of responsibility. Now, when Francys and I want to go out together as husbands and wives, we have to leave both Camila and Maxi at my in-laws' house or at my mother's XD.
Another important aspect is the sense of responsibility that Maxi supposes for Camila, making her also participate in the care of the puppy and of course, in cleaning up his mischief, this last one doesn't please her very much, but it is necessary to cultivate in her that sense of responsibility that of course, is helped by us.
It has been 6 months that have undoubtedly enlarged the family love and that makes us have more joy at home with so many signs of affection that our beloved puppy gives us.
