I'll explain the three steps as follows
How-to autostart during boot Ethernet on Ubuntu Mate 16.04 on my Yoga laptop, that is to make the Ethernet driver for my internal Ethernet device to load, to start up, when I turn on my computer PC so I don't have to manually sudo modprobe r8169 each time I start my computer up. The keyword is persistent which means forever or permanent as in automatic to make the changes not temporary.
The first step would be to install the driver. The second step would be to make sure the driver is automatically loaded. The third step would be to remove the driver from any blacklist files which may be blocking it. Make sure the driver is not in conflict with other drivers. That is why there are blacklists to resolve conflicts. These are three main steps that allowed me to automatically load Ethernet when I would boot or startup my computer. I've been trying to get my Ethernet fixed for many months in 2020, well on and off I've been working on it for many hours going back through the summer and possibly as early as maybe 2019. Well, I'm not totally sure but I've spent dozens days every month or every few months, several hours each day sometimes. Long story short, I've tried different things when working on Ethernet and USB WIFI devices and phone systems and routers and many different things. In other words, I've been working on different projects, some which may be related to this Ethernet thing. So, I may have broken my Ethernet months ago. It may have been Comcast. It may have been the automatic updates on Ubuntu Mate 16.04. It may have been that I removed the wrong files when working on getting USB WIFI devices to work. I can't say how many different things and combinations of things it may have been. So, there may be other things you would have to do to get Ethernet to work again assuming I've left out other steps. Perhaps, Ethernet requires certains files, settings, etc, in order to work. So, I don't have a complete list of all the things required right now to guarantee it would work but these are 3 steps that work for me right now currently. Below, I've also included some explanation for these three steps.
