It is a new year and still in the early days of the year, some of us set goals, and some take each day as it comes. Whichever way we choose, we match on with a common pursuit, which is to make money.
The state of the global economy around us as well as following last year's implosion of the cryptocurrency market which we are yet to recover from coupled with the Russia, Ukraine war is enough to have gloomy thoughts racing through our minds.
We could also settle for the thought that money doesn't mean anything. We have at one time or another heard the saying about money not being as important as we make it to be. It is the root of all evil I heard them say in my younger days, it has been years since I heard that statement and I wonder if there are still people that think along that line.
Thoughts along that line reflect giving up on life, it is a mediocre way of life that we should get out of our thoughts and start believing.
The reality is no one is finding it easy but a lot depends on the things we feed our minds as well as the people we hang around with.
At times the best way to appreciate life and what we have is to count our blessings, there are people in a worse situation out there than us.
Last week of 2022, a couple that lives in their car with their dog was brought to my attention as I made my way to church by the security at the gate, being a member of St Vincent de Paul I reported the situation of the couple to my fellow members so we can reach out to the couple.
If we allow the thought of sleeping and waking up in the car to sink in for a moment it is not a pleasing situation for anyone to find themselves.
To dwell on the couple a bit, I questioned myself why drive around and live in a car when the car can be sold to fund a rental house and possibly a small business to keep them going? I wanted more chat with the couple but was running late for Mass so I was brief and headed off. Perhaps they have a good reason for their choice of driving around and living in a car.
Back to money and thought, we live in a world of abundance, sadly what is supposed to go around for all has been mismanaged over the years leaving most to live in lack. However, we can't rule out the fact that we have an abundance around us, it is left for us to keep positioning ourselves for success.
We can't seek success and idly drift into small expectations and thoughts. Some of us spend our lives working for money but we tell ourselves money doesn't mean anything.
To help the needy there has to be enough so we can share with the less privileged. Last time I check the lack of money was the root of evil.
Yesterday the substation in my vicinity blew up as thugs engaged in cable theft, now those are broke folks of the society in the alliance over evil acts because they lack money.
Money can't give us everything but deep down we know its impact on our lives as a necessity.
We owe it to ourselves to make Hive great
