I departed from South Africa on the 27th of February as some of you are aware of my plan to move to the Benin Republic.
It was a 03:10 flight and I arrived at the airport a few minutes past midnight so I had more than enough time to check-in.
I am not a frequent flyer so I unknowingly checked in my hand luggage, I am disappointed with the lady that checked me in at OR Tambo International Airport South Africa.
I asked her where do I proceed next, and she just responded "put the luggage in the trolley over there"
I put the luggage on the trolley and headed to customs, where I was asked to go back and check both pieces of luggage in.
That was the only hassle I encountered during my travel other than that it was a hassle-free journey.
I had a connecting flight in Kigali Rwanda which took about 40 minutes before we embarked on the Flight to Libreville Gabon.
It was about 50 minutes stop in Gabon for some to disembark and board.
And from Gabon to Contonu it was less than 2 hours.
There was a French lady that boarded from South Africa, we sat next to each other, and we both wanted to chat but the language barrier shows up earlier than I expected during my move to Benin.
I told her I don't understand French, but understand one of the local languages which she is not the one she speaks but I managed to understand, after Benin, she's heading to Togo, Ghana before returning to South Africa on the 25th of March.
I told her am going to Fidjrosse, Cotonou and she couldn't stop repeating it as we drew closer to arrival it's a nice place close to the ocean, so I learned the word "la mer" which means ocean from her.
Nigeria to Benin is Visa-free, so I was surprised at how the custom granted me entry to the country, no questions asked about where I am heading to and for how long.
They never asked for the Covid test result which cost me $44 in South Africa.
It didn't take long for my cousin to pick me up at the airport, he took me to a restaurant for lunch which I enjoyed.
