In around 100 countries around the world, women are still excluded from work, simply because they are women.

Women still have to overcome more barriers if they want to set up their own business or want to get their dream job. This is evidenced by a new report from the World Bank. "Although a lot of progress has already been made, many countries still have laws that prevent women from having the same access to the labor market as men."

Especially women in the Middle East and North Africa often get the short end of the stick. For example, there are 18 countries where a woman needs her husband's permission if she wants to work. But the difficulties for women are not limited to these countries, reports the World Bank. 'Obstacles occur in all 173 economies investigated.'

The report shows that in 100 countries around the world women are excluded from work simply because they are women. More than 150 countries count at least one law that discriminates against women. And only 18 countries have no law in which women are disadvantaged.
