Reflections Of What Could Have Been
Unfinished work, young man's life taken for a belief, have we moved forward since this historical speech was made?
Today celebrates his birth date (written yesterday then no electricity syndrome attacked our town), MLK day in the USA tomorrow, reflections 60 years back to 1963 when I was a young girl. Now why would my thoughts go here, answer is simple my friend, we blowing in the wind, we always turned to music for most information.
This famous speech spoke about everyone being equal, slavery had been abolished 100 years ago, yet the people still not mingling freely. A dream of all children being able to enjoy each others company, remembering no child is born able to differentiate, have we accomplished this now 60 years later.
Where I live this dream is not anywhere close to being reached, as children living segregated by colour, creed, religion, language, a country with a deep desire aimed to see this demolished. it was almost tangible for a couple of years, now being reversed once again, without written law in place. Silent forces stir hatred up continuously for what reason no one knows.
Nelson Mandela's Rainbow Nation dream died with him when greedy hands waited in the wings to take control, currently a country where very few, could or would be proud of.
Haunting question, when will people stop being referred to as black, white or coloured, European, Indian, Bantu, Asian, why all legal forms inquire to know what you are other than a human?
It never stops there either, it goes down branches into religion, culture, tribe, language wherever you wander. Humans wanting modern technology, when we cannot look after the land we are given nor keep the lights on!
Where I learned about "I have a dream" like many other human on earth with all their faults, music that was how we found out about civil rights movements, wars, disgruntled people.
I leave you, wishing you on this day to enjoy reflections of the mind over decades of time... (It's fascinating and called history/memory...)
