World Teachers' Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is an international day held annually on October 5. According to UNESCO, the theme for this year's World Teachers’ Day celebration is Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future. The day celebrated to focus on the works of the educators and draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind. Because of COVID, some of the teachers will celebrate this day virtually. Take a look on how I celebrate it together with my dear teachers, dive in and I'll show you.
First, I greeted the best teacher in the whole wide world, my mother. When I was young, she taught me how to read and count. She's a bit strict though. I still remember I cried for a couple of times because she got mad when I made mistakes. But at the end of the day, she will let us understand that she only did that for us to learn. She doesn't want us to get behind in our elementary years. When I reached highschool, she's still my teacher. She taught me how to be strong, respectful and responsible. She's always there for me every time I need her. Now that I am already in college, I still consider her as my teacher for she taught me how to become a lady, a woman and in the near future to become a mother.
I haven't greet my father yet because he's still in work and I want to greet him in person, maybe tonight. Just like my mother, he's always there when I need him. He might be strict in terms of going home early and going outside but still he's still the best. He constantly teach me about "manners" and how to treat people. He molds me to become a better person. I still remember when I had a tough time in choosing my course in college, he made sure that I do have nothing to worry and he wants me to choose the course that I really love. He never puts any pressure on me or dictate a certain course and I am more than thankful about it.
Next, my classmates and I decided to greet our teachers. One of our professors let us made some cards for one of our most favorite elementary and highschool teacher as a project. I decided to send it to them and I created another greeting card for most of my teachers. I decided to dm them in their messenger and in our group chats to drop my greetings. Some of them were in shock, specially my elementary teachers because I was still able to greet and remember them. I was also able to talk and check on how they are doing this quarantine. While talking to them, I realized that time flies really fast. My elementary or even highschool life seems so recent to me and I can't believe that next month I will be no longer a teenager.
I also sent my greetings to my friends and classmates who taught me several things. I strongly believe that the role of a teacher doesn't limit to the profession itself. You can still help others to acquire knowledge, competence or virtue by being you. As long as you have the courage and heart to teach someone, to rectify misconceptions and more, then you are a teacher of your own.
This pandemic crisis has added to the challenges that the education system have faced. Some of the countries have even shifted their education environment to online and marks a big change to the system, for both teachers and students. If the students have the hard time to surpass this challenge so as the teachers. We should try to understand and help each other to finish this school year with quality education. As to what Mr. Henry Ford once said, if everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.
