PORTRAIT STUDY: "LEND ME YOU EARS"

Lately, I have been downloading some artbooks to learn techniques, genre and theories in terms of drawing and a book of Giovanni Cavardi, "Drawing Portraits, Faces and Figures" really comes handy. I really find it very informative and he was able to educate me about many things also, it is very organized and can be easily understood. I learned a lot in terms of sketching but today I am going to present to you specifically the ears. I also posted a portrait study about the eyes I hope you will check it out. We use our ears to hear, listen and communicate. When our friends, family or anyone wants to say something to us we use it to understand and respond to them appropriately. Moreover, one of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what others has to say. Sometimes, when our friend shares something we just have to shut our mouth and lend our ears to them. Sometimes, we don't have to say a word to mean that we understand or empathize them. If speaking is silver then, listening is gold. It's like people keep in doing it and only few of us master the such. I hope that we will practice it more often because it is often the only thing needed to help someone. I hope you will also enjoy my drawing so, without a further a do...dive in and I'll show you.

First, I have to learn the parts, structure and placement of an ear. I was so amazed by the terms that were being shown. In this illustration, I used a black ball pen so that it will be really clear and visible when I am going to read the labels. My drawing reminds me of my Anatomy and Physiology class right now. It has been a very rough and bumpy week in that class since we just took our 2 tests which are about the introduction and the integumentary system. If you are going to ask me about my scores well... it's best to move forward.

This is how an ear looks when you are at the side of your subject. I used a Monggol 1 and 2 pencil which are my go to thing. I tried my best to put pressure to give me a darker tone. I am really happy about the outcome. I really find this kind of strokes interesting and captivating- the way how the overlapping opposite lines looks like.

Lastly, more ears at different angles. I think it is also important to practice drawing it in different perspective so that we will be more familiar about its structure. Personally, I like the full and front version of an ear. I find it more comfortable and appealing but truth be told most of the times I disregard or pay a little attention when I do it in a portrait. That is why, I practice to get better on my craft and honestly, I am not doing a good job. It is because I am very very lazy. I have this habit of saying that I I will just do it the next day and end up not performing it at all. I hope you guys are not like me.
