I have been spending my time working on pottery, sewing, cooking, and gardening. Lately, I have been making masks for family after showing off some of the masks that I had made for myself. Not everyone knows how to sew or even owns a sewing machine.
I was surprised to find that sewing machines are so much in demand right now that a number of stores are back ordered. Not only are people sewing masks, but they are also making and altering clothes at home once again. Anyway, my sister asked me to make her a mask and embroider her small business name on it.
I modified a pattern that I had been using for myself to cut back on the hand sewing at the end, but the final version left too much space around the nose area.
I decided to make her another one using a pattern from a Youtube video that I liked.
I hope that this version has a better fit because I cannot mass produce masks for a large family if I have to take the time to hand sew the ends. This particular pattern lets you use the sewing machine all the way through which is much better for me.
I like being able to embroider names or special messages on the masks because that personalizes them. I ordered a lot of different colors of embroidery thread from an online merchant, but my new thread won't be delivered until tomorrow.
In the meantime, I also embroidered a piece of fabric for my neice with her name on it since she is a server in a restaurant that has returned back to work. She is required to provide her own mask. Her mother can sew and she made her a mask that was really cute. I volunteered to embroider her name on some fabric so that my neice's customers could read her name on her mask. Hopefully, she won't have to keep repeating her name over and over again.
