Many years ago when I was still working full time, I went to an estate sale close to my neighborhood. A lady who used to do alterations for a living passed away and her family was selling everything in her house.
I love antique furniture and I noticed a nice hardwood desk that appeared to be made out of cherry or mahogany wood. Upon closer inspection, I saw that it was a sewing table/desk. The price was right. It was only $97. I told the seller that I wanted to buy it and I was surprised that all of the drawers were full.
I asked where they wanted me to put the items in the drawers, and they told me that everything was on sale for the $97.
My second surprise was when I discovered that there was a sewing machine in the sewing/desk. By the time I got it home and checked it out, I discovered that the sewing machine was in tiptop condition even though it was very old and a vintage model.
The lady had everything that you could think of in those drawers from thread, to scissors, to patterns, to special tools etc. it was such a great find for me. At the time, I was working full-time and was not doing a lot of sewing on a regular basis.
I have been gone from this house for four months due to the pandemic. I really got into sewing and embroidering at my second home and I decided to check out my craft room here.
I am still fascinated by the things that I own and that I purchased when I had more money coming into my house. I have always been a bargain shopper and I love garage sales, thrift stores, etc.
Due to the pandemic, sewing machines are very hard to come by because people are sewing a lot of facemasks and other things since they are stuck at home.
I am glad that I made this purchase. All I have to do is oil and lubricate this machine to be safe.
I stitched a sample on woven fabric and on jersey knit and they both look perfect.
My Singer Touch and Sew is made out of metal so it is very durable. When I am not using it, it folds away into a nice desk that can be used for other crafts.
Be sure to let your family members know about things that you own that may be old but are still valuable.
