It’s been hot for a week, 95, hot, bright and clear
The cars look like they just drove off a showroom floor
Bright and shiny
Red, blue, black, green, even neon yellow
Imports agile and flashy
Old muscle cars,
The ultimate of pride and power
Exhaust fumes, and smoking tire wells
Armor-alled leather and new car scent trees
Weaving in and out of traffic, close calls and quick trips
Barbecues' fired up, heat waves dancing on top
Chicken and beef and pork chops,
Their aroma flying on the air,
Caressing noses and watering mouths
Good people, good conversation, good beer
And the women, dear lord, the beautiful women
Tight shorts and tighter shirts
Glitter dusted faces and glistening cleavages
Angelic smiles and golden laughter
High-heeled boots and Birkenstocks
Smooth tanned legs and light perfume
Silken hair, always with some panache, some flare
I love it when one passes me by
My breath catches and for the next several moments all I can think is
WOW
I love summer
