I think it is the first sunny noon we have had so far in the month of June, since the previous days have been marked by cloudy skies, persistent drizzles, and excessive humidity. So I decided on this sort of "interruption" in these days of trough and, after a light lunch, I took my camera and went out to wander through the streets of Montalbán, technically "while I digested my food." As was to be expected, the heat was intense; although the weather page said we had 30°C, the truth is that the thermal sensation must have been much higher, due to the intense humidity, I suppose. Be that as it may, the streets were illuminated: shadows compressed directly beneath people, animals, and things thanks to the almost zenithal position of the sun; and only when some light, not very dense cloud crossed, the contrast decreased and a white, almost metallic and even light, seemed to dominate everything. In reality, these are not the best conditions for street photography, but I know that the town can yield some interesting images, despite it being difficult to manage the light at the moment of shooting the camera...

Creo que es el primer mediodía soleado que hemos tenido en lo que va del mes de junio, pues los días previos han estado marcados por cielos nubosos, lloviznas pertinaces y humedad excesiva. Así que decidí esta especie de "interrupción" en estos días de vaguada y, después de un almuerzo ligero, tomé mi cámara y salí a deambular por las calles de Montalbán, técnicamente "mientras digería mi comida". Como era de esperarse, el calor era intenso; aunque la página del clima decía que teníamos 30 °C, la verdad es que la sensación térmica debía ser mucho más alta, debido a la humedad intensa, supongo. Sea como sea, las calles estaban iluminadas: las sombras se comprimían directamente bajo las personas, los animales y las cosas gracias a la posición casi cenital del sol; y solo cuando alguna leve nube no muy densa se atravesaba, disminuía el contraste y una luz blanca, casi metálica y pareja, parecía dominarlo todo. En realidad, estas no son las mejores condiciones para hacer fotos callejeras, pero sé que el pueblo puede deparar algunas imágenes interesantes, a pesar de que sea difícil gestionar la luz al momento de disparar la cámara...

People heading home to have lunch, some of them coming from the nearby farming fields, some on foot and others on their bicycles; old vehicles parked on the sidewalks where few people pass by anymore; old windows open trying to ventilate the heat from inside the houses; dogs walking through the streets with their tongues out from thirst; the shadow of a cyclist oddly compressed on the pavement... Certainly, middays like these make me look at the streets in a very different way than I do in the mornings, which is when I usually walk them the most...

Personas yendo a su casa a almorzar, algunas de ellas viniendo de los campos de labranza cercanos, algunos a pie y otros en sus bicicletas; vehículos viejos estacionados sobre las aceras por donde ya pocas personas pasan; viejas ventanas abiertas procurando ventilar el calor del interior de las casas; perros que caminan por las calles con la lengua afuera por la sed; la sombra de un ciclista comprimida de manera extraña sobre el pavimento... Ciertamente, los mediodías como estos me hacen mirar las calles de una manera muy distinta a como lo hago en las mañanas, que es cuando más acostumbro recorrerlas...

The light oscillations of a midday like this tend to generate subtle changes in color tones, so I decided to keep these photos in color, as it seemed to me that this way they will better convey the visual experience of walking through these streets at these hours. And believe me, I know this is not exactly a beautiful place, but that is precisely what makes me inclined to photograph it, because here you have to be a true "space hunter" to find what I want to photograph and have it serve to express myself...

Las oscilaciones lumínicas de un mediodía como este tienden a generar sutiles cambios en los tonos de los colores, así que decidí mantener estas fotos coloreadas, pues me ha parecido que así transmitirán más la experiencia visual de caminar por estas calles en estas horas. Y créanme, sé que este no es un lugar precisamente hermoso, pero precisamente es eso lo que me hace ser proclive a fotografiarlo, pues aquí hay que ser un verdadero "buscador de espacios" para encontrar lo que quiero fotografiar y que me sirva para expresarme...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}
