On the outskirts of my village (Montalb谩n, Venezuela) there are large areas of flat lands which belonged to a stud farm called "El Bosque" (The forest). That place was called this way precisely because it had a small forest of its own, as well as the pastures where the horses that were bred there grazed... This was the case until the end of the last century, as the owners, it is known, left the country and abandoned the place for unknown reasons.
With the passing of time the outbuildings of the haras have been damaged by vandals and are now in a very bad state, but the grassy plains and the small forest are still there and are now a very pleasant place to go for a walk in the morning and breathe fresh air... Moreover, the passage is totally free for walkers.
And it's not only a great place for hiking, it's also a great place for photography!... The best time is in the mornings and it was precisely at that time that I took these photos this week. Here the rainy season has already started and the foliage is new and green, so it provides a very attractive kind of brightness and colour both in the open fields and in the forests. However, due to the rains, in a couple of months the vegetation will probably be too dense and will make photography and even access this place, difficult.
This place is reached by a paved road which connects the villages of Montalb谩n and Aguirre (about 7 km from each other). Just a couple of kilometres after leaving the village behind, there is an old entrance with a metal gate, which a quarter of a century ago was the main entrance to the haras. There then the pavement ends and a dirt road begins, which runs along the edge of the forest and through the pastures. From this road, the small forest can be accessed by one of the small paths made by the locals.
The morning was warm and humid, but the sky was fairly clear and the bright sun was beginning to caress the surface in a lovely way. So this walk gave me the opportunity to enjoy taking photographs of various kinds. From the grasslands with the open landscape, through the road and then into the forest, everything there called out for photographs. Interestingly, I saw almost no birds or other animals, I suppose this was due to the time of day (just before 7 AM) and the fact that it had rained during the night. So I will have to come to this place in the evening hours, when I might be able to observe some wildlife here.
As铆 que esta caminata me sirvi贸 para deleitarme haciendo fotograf铆as de diverso car谩cter.
The colours of the recent foliage, the sunlight penetrating the forest, the trunks and branches against the light... There is something about this kind of place that makes you just instinctively and pleasurably start taking pictures. I think that time goes by without us noticing, because in the blink of an eye it was 9 o'clock in the morning and the heat began to increase, as well as the sounds of people walking along the dirt roads and the occasional vehicle in the distance, on the paved road that I had left a kilometre away in the direction of the village.
The history of this place is complex... For many years, from the 60's to the late 90's, it was a breeding stud which produced highly renowned thoroughbred horses, which made history in national horse racing competitions and in other countries... However, one day their owners decided to leave Venezuela and return to their country of origin (Germany) leaving the farm in the care of their local employees... Shortly after those people in charge also left the country and the place it fell into disrepair, even being vandalized and parts of its land misappropriated. I learned that the municipality tried to take control of these lands to turn them into a kind of park, but apparently someone moved their influence from Germany and the country's authorities prevented this. So this place is still abandoned and its ownership is a bit mystery thing to know.
Either way, the good thing is that this place is still there and it's quite easy to get to it without having problems to access or insecurity of some kind. Although, many people in our community advocate that one day it will be possible for these lands to be a kind of natural reserve that serves for recreation and enjoyment of the people of the town and those who visit it... I find it difficult for that to happen, Well, there are many similar cases and the interests behind it are quite shady!... So only fate will tell what will happen with "El Bosque" (The Forest)...
Tech Note: Photographs taken with my old Nikon D7000 DSLR and a Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM "all terrain" zoon lens in RAW format... Processing was done almost entirely with Adobe Camera Raw , leaving the photographs light in terms of brightness, levels, contrasts, color temperatures, depth and the like. After being exported to JPG format, Photoshop was used for other minor adjustments and corrections.
Thank you all very much for stopping by and appreciating these photographs. We will see you again soon.
