The day I did this hike, I left home at 2:30 AM dressed in long pants, an old camping shirt, my old cap, and my camera hanging around my neck. That day, the temperature in the valley was close to 36掳C, with very little wind and a blazing sun illuminating everything from an impeccably blue, cloudless sky. My wife, as she always does when she sees me leave the house on extremely hot days, jokingly said, "Remember to take your cell phone so you can call when you're dying of dehydration" 馃ぃ and then added, "Leave it on, that way it'll be easier to find your body" 馃ぃ I burst out laughing and said goodbye, but not before telling her, "You won't get rid of me that easily. I'm going to the hills and will be back in two or three hours"...
This first photo shows a panoramic view of Montalb谩n from one of the viewpoints in the hills northwest of the town. I reached this spot after a walk of just over an hour, starting along paths that cross an old pine plantation, abandoned years ago and occasionally affected by fires that have gradually reduced the number of surviving old pine trees and favored the resurgence of local vegetation species...
Despite the afternoon heat and the sun's rays, which seemed to be drilling into my old cap and making my bald head sweat profusely 馃槀, the truth is that walking along these trails is always pleasant from every point of view. And if you also want to take some photos, the place offers diverse landscapes that are perfect for that. Something to keep in mind is how steep the trail is, which is why it's best to take it easy and not overdo it with the effort or speed of the ascent...
Once past the grounds of the old pine plantation, the path becomes even steeper. That day, only a few birds and a solitary cow on a distant hill seemed to notice my presence as I climbed, with considerable effort, along the narrow trail. Curiously, at this altitude, the vegetation becomes shorter, and only small deciduous trees appear, their pink flowers emerging in the midst of drought and then transforming into seed pods, ready to ensure the propagation of the species. Also, despite the challenging light, the landscapes are beautiful and perfect for photographing...
Gradually the path levels out, leading to one of the small viewpoints marked by a tiny rustic cement chapel. From there, the town's streets appear almost unexpectedly to anyone who hasn't been there before. This is my moment to zoom in and take photos of the town's outskirts from up there. While doing this, I also rest enough to prepare for the descent back to the town.
I took an alternate path down, which is even steeper than the one I used to climb up. But, as the saying goes, "Even stones roll downhill" 馃槀 so I didn't make it down too easily after all...
Thank you very much for your visit and appreciation!
隆Muchas gracias por pasar y apreciar!
