Hello #Hive friends!... Earlier today I set off on a country road to the west of town, carrying my camera on my backpack with my macro lens attached. My intention was to take some insects macro shots and maybe some on flowers.... But fate conspired to give me some different pictures.

The first interesting thing I found was one of these huge Cephalotes atratus ants, which often make colonies in holes in old trees. I immediately took some photos and set out to follow one of these ants to find the entrance to its colony. But immediately I started to like the shapes of the bark around this insect... So, a couple of minutes later I was photographing tree bark without being able to stop.

I love photographing the shapes, textures and that "relief" provided by the bark of old trees... And I was even fascinated to discover a small lizard watching me when I took Photo 02 (you can see it almost in the center of that image). I don't know their species, but they are relatively common here.

Curiously, I didn't know exactly what settings were good for these types of photos, but since they are taken at a relatively short distance (less than 60 cm in many cases) I decided to use settings similar to those I use for some street portraits... apertures from f/7.1 to f/5 and that was quite efficient for me, at least from my point of view.

That particular world of shapes in the crusts is something that I could become obsessed with if I let myself be carried away by the impressive diversity that there is to photograph. So when the time came, I decided to look for an alternative within the same tonic, but that were not just "tree barks" because I thought of sharing something more diverse.

That's how I found these thorns of a tree commonly called "Habillo" (Hura polyandra) which seemed fabulous to photograph. So I decided to treat them as if they were insects and take a macro photo using my own settings to photograph some critter that I could have found in a dark place in the forest, with an aperture of f/14 and using the built-in flash sparingly (-1.3 EV).

In search of variety, I had my eye on this spot of lichenized fungus as well (photo 08).

Sharpening the look, quite exotic things begin to appear. Like this wall of clayey earth full of holes whose origin is totally unknown to me. I didn't see any insects coming out of them, nor did I see any birds making them... But these are certainly good for one of these weird abstract photos!

I will close this publication with this photo (10) of a flirt, or moss?... I'm not good to differentiating them, but the truth is that this has grown in the damp earth under the leaf litter on the edges of the road. Its colors are certainly attractive and a demonstration of how many things can be found if one looks carefully here.
