Rebellion is an exciting new set with some great themes, awesome new abilities and summoner tactics which offer a whole new dimension to game play.
In one of my previous posts before the set had been spoiled, I had predicted that we would see a 2 mana ranged attacker in each splinter. We didn't get that, but we did get 2 mana cards for each splinter without an attack. It was a great move by Splinterlands and adds much more flavor to the set than 2 mana ranged attackers would have. This is especially true in light of the still relatively new weapons training ability.
And we've already seen great 2 mana cards like this in the past
Daigendark Surveyor has already made it's way into my regular play and I'm not even sure that it's the best one yet.
Another great theme of cards that we've seen with this new set is dual element summoners. These cards are great and may be undercosted at 3 mana a piece. After I get these leveled up, Kretch Tallevor may not be my go to summoner whenever I see the silenced summoners ruleset.
Summoner Tactics
The next great theme I'd like to cover are the new summoner tactics summoners because these really change gameplay. With the new summoners tactics you have a chance to make choices about the units that you'll give abilities, buffs or debuffs to after seeing your opponent's lineup. In my experience, I've already decided on a couple of units to buff before seeing my opponent's lineup some of the time. The screen does allow me to make those selections while my opponent is just putting their lineup together which I was really happy about.
The process is reasonably intuitive but didn't run smoothly for me the first couple of times I tried it.
I generally will use my iphone for most of the battles I play. I'll use my laptop for making these posts.
When you enter your lineup, you'll see this screen where you can select which summoner ability you would like
I brought in this team where I have a couple of double striking ranged attackers that I want to buff with Prophet Rosa. So I select the +2 ranged attack just over my summoner.
Once that's hilighted, I can select which unit or in this case units I want to give the buff to
I selected Drybone Raider
and Axemaster for some huge damage. If I just left things as they stand here then my monsters don't get the buff. I can wait for the battle to start and probably lose. You'll notice on the right side of the screen there's an empty black box over the 2 options for Prophet Rosa. That was the problem that I had early on when trying to select my battle tactics. If you get caught with a screen like this, you'll have to refresh your screen until you see that empty box filled and you may have to reselect your targets.
Now the text and button are available for me to press. I have to press the button that says BATTLE over Prophet Rosa for the buffs to be applied.
So far I've seen more utility with some battle tactic summoners that others. I think the best by far is Akane which allows you to take out a vital member or maybe even 2 from your opponent's lineup before that battle has really even started thanks to ambush.
Lookout is also a fantastic ability, but I think ambush is much more powerful and I'm surprised that Akane is only able to give lookout to 1 monster.
Underboss Fabino is great for buffing a melee attacker with double strike, or poisoning an opposing unit that you expect to be a problem. You can use Fabino to poison your opponent's Katrelba Gobson and win a match that you would have otherwise lost.
There's enough double striking ranged attackers now that you're likely to find a few use cases for Prophet Rosa.
