Greetings fellas!!!

How are you all doing?, its been a very busy week for me because ive been home handling a few things. I haven’t had time to catch a break. But I decided today to clue you in to what I’m up to. The rains have started in The northern part of Ghana which means we can start our usual farming activities and as most of you already know, my family invest deeply into farming among other things. This year we plan on farming on a variety of crops namely; groundnut, cassava, yam, and maize. Previously we didn’t cultivate groundnut last year. But this year we want to add it to the list of farming activities.

This month, we will be cultivating the yam, cassava and groundnut simultaneously so later later around june, we will farm the maize. So we started with yam farm. We had already prepared some seedlings we cultivated from last year. We stored them in a cool dark room, with room temperature.

And then we headed to the farm to make ready the heaps on which the yam was going to be planted in. I went with my uncle, in creating the heaps, there are a few things you need to be careful about, it shouldn’t be too small else the yam would have a hard time growing and it shouldn’t be too big else it will just waste space.

After a few hours, we were done creating the heaps. I tried counting them but i got lost in the way. What i can tell you is there are many lol…. So now what’s left is too transport the seedlings to the farm and plant them right at the middle of the heap. Once this is done, after they have germinated we will have to set up a structure to support them grow up. That is by placing sticks to help them grow straight.
