Hello everyone, welcome to another wonderful weekend where we get to explore our minds and their creativity in the most wonderful ways. These intriguing topics are brought to you by @galenkp, so a big shout-out from here.
Starting with my name. I鈥檓 Zaria and I recently turned twenty-one. I鈥檇 been counting the days steadfastly and my wing of the cave is covered with conscientious marking. I decided I was going to find my way was I turned 21. This didn鈥檛 bode well with my parents, especially my mum who still thought of me as a kid but I was determined to be independent. So, a day after my twenty-first birthday, I bid my family farewell and set on my journey.
I think my mum was mostly worried I鈥檇 have nowhere to stay but unknown to her, I鈥檇 found a habitable cave owned by an old widow far into the forest. I stumbled on this cave on one of my long walks in the forest and after discussing with the widow whose terms were simply to stick to my wing and stay out of her way, I started making plans to move in.
Now, fully settled in my new home, I unpack my hunting bag which is made of thick deer skin. Father had skinned the deer himself and this bag was his gift to me on my journey to independence. I look in and see a huge chunk of deer meat, which would surely last for days. I don鈥檛 waste time as I get stones and dried leaves to make a fire and proceed to roast my deer. I eat and call it a night.
The next day, I wake up before the sun as a habit. Back at home, I鈥檇 follow Father deep into the forest where we would hunt stealthily for animals that were still creeping about. I see that I still have a lot of meat left over so I set out to find fruits. I soon come back with mangoes and berries. On my other hand is a pheasant that I鈥檇 caught. I gift it to the widow who I see is up. She murmurs her gratitude, barely looking at me. But I smile. We would no doubt soon be friends.
The sun is just about to rise so I pick up my special stone. I鈥檇 crafted it myself, and I start drawing on the walls of the cave. It鈥檚 usually really tasking and I wonder to myself if it鈥檚 ever possible to have better tools to draw with, but I sigh wistfully as I know it isn鈥檛 and draw, slowly perfecting my craft.
People around the village had noticed my skills and so had employed me to make drawings on their cave walls. This is a most welcome means of keeping busy and also feeding my stomach as I know independent life will not be easy. I spend the day at people鈥檚 caves. Whatever they ask for, my special stone can craft it.
Unfortunately, stone art takes a great deal of time but I do not despair as the owners expressed profound pleasure in my work and send me on my way with a bag of all sorts of fruits and roasted meat.
My next stop is my favourite place after home. It belongs to Zain. My partner and friend. He welcomes me with open arms and I bring out the gifts I鈥檇 received with a flourish. He smiles and shows me the contents of a hot makeshift pot and I see he鈥檚 prepared something too. We set out to eat these delicious meals as we talk, watching the sunset.
He takes me back to my cave and promises to come the next day. I鈥檓 happy to spend my time with Zain as he is one of the most wonderful men I鈥檝e met. An absolutely caring man that sees beauty in me and the things I do. I know a lot of my time would be spent with him. My dear widow friend yells that we should stop disturbing her sleep and so we hug once more and I feel him leave. I wonder how the widow occupies her day but I know better not to ask. I sleep with a smile on my face. Maybe this independent life would work after all.
This is my entry to @galenkp's Weekend Engagement Prompt. Do well to check it out if you haven't.
