So, something happened about two hours or so ago that is the inspiration behind this post. I’d been contemplating between two choices on what to post but then it happened. Or rather the long process came to fruition and I couldn’t have been more happier. I guess happier is not quite an accurate term. Let’s just say that I was relieved. And grateful. Very grateful.
I wouldn’t want to go into all the finer details of this occurrence. Or this event, more accurately. But it made me realize something. Something that I’ve always known but due to this, had to be emphasized. It’s the beauty in camaraderie. The beauty in cooperation. The beauty in support from people who on a normal day may not even be your friends or may not even talk to you. Just acquaintances perhaps. But because you’re working towards a cause. A cause that they see and appreciate, they work with you or you all work together to achieve that.
Oxford Dictionary gave a rather vague meaning of the word, 'camaraderie,' but I’ll take the second definition which says, “A spirit of familiarity and closeness.” It’s pretty accurate unless you need a deeper version of that, then this wouldn’t just suffice. I think camaraderie is not permanent. I think for the most part that it occurs by chance. A sudden development of camaraderie in people due to an event. And that’s how I felt today.
It was a pretty special feeling for me because it’s not something I’m used to. People working together or helping me foster a cause. One of the beautiful things about camaraderie that makes me exceedingly grateful is the fact that any of the people who helped me could have chosen not to.
I mean, we’re all adults. We have our priorities. We have things that could help us immensely that we would rather do, other than use them to aid someone’s cause. But they did it anyway. It didn’t matter to me then and certainly doesn’t matter to me now that they may have also done it because they wanted to help themselves. They did it and were happy doing it and that pleased me beyond measure.
Now, I’m feeling nostalgic and I’m reminded of a similar time that I’ve experienced something like this. I’ve shared it here before but for anyone who didn’t read it, it was about my classmates (girls) in high school. We had almost zero sense of love or even friendship towards one another.
It was all about cliques and cartels and what have you but then we got punished together for something. Which is ironic cause today’s event is founded on something similar. But then because of the punishment, we worked together; talked and laughed and had such good rapport in that moment. Something I knew would never repeat itself but I was grateful for it regardless.
So today was kind of like that. Unlikely circumstances fostering camaraderie that may not have ever been there if that situation didn’t present itself. Today was a pretty good day and I’m happy that it turned out well. I’m learning to be happier these days and take each day as it comes. Good or bad. But if the good days are consistent, I have no reason to complain.
I’d planned to keep this very short. I’m not sure if this has surpassed what could be considered short but that’s all I have to say cause I have a painful throb in my eyes that means I've overworked it for the day and with all my talk, today was still pretty stressful. So, it’s off to bed for me. Stay awesome everyone.
