Ya acabé el primer trayecto de la universidad, así que, técnicamente, estoy pasando por mis mini vacaciones. Para mi buena suerte, he tenido muchísimas energías, buenas ideas y bastante tiempo libre para empezar a pensar en cosas creativas que me gustaría hacer, vender o regalar. He estado más activa que nunca con las artesanías, por así decirlo, y no he querido perder la oportunidad de compartir las cosas que hago con ustedes.
I have just finished my first semester at university, so technically, I’m on my mini vacation. Luckily, I’ve had a lot of energy, good ideas, and plenty of free time to start thinking about creative things I would like to make, sell, or give away. I’ve been more active than ever with crafts, so to speak, and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to share what I create with you.
En esta ocasión, quise hacer unas chapas que tenía en mente desde hace mucho tiempo; aún no sé bien si son para vender o regalar, pero de igual manera quería atreverme a hacer algo bonito.
This time, I wanted to make some pins that I’ve had in mind for a long time; I’m still not sure if they are for selling or giving away, but I wanted to dare to create something beautiful regardless.
Aún hay cosas que tengo que seguir aprendiendo sobre cada artesanía que hago para mejorar su calidad y durabilidad, pero poco a poco, mientras experimento, seguiré ampliando mis conocimientos y aplicándolos a las nuevas cosas que haga.
There are still things I need to learn about each craft I make to improve their quality and durability, but little by little, as I experiment, I will continue to expand my knowledge and apply it to the new things I create.
- Bottle caps and corks.
- Graphite pencil.
- Cold paints in red, pink, white, black, carmine, dark blue, light blue, and purple.
- Thin brushes for outlining, soft bristles. And a large flat brush with soft bristles.
- Top coat or acrylic nail varnish.
- UV lamp for sealing the varnish.
Con el pincel plano vamos a pintar de color negro la superficie de la chapa. Esperemos a que seque y damos cuántas capas de pintura creamos necesarias para que quede bien cubierta la superficie. Seguido de eso, vamos a tomar el lápiz de grafito y vamos a trazar el boceto del corazón. En mi caso, no soy experta haciendo dibujos directamente sobre los lienzos, por eso hago el boceto, para determinar la mejor ubicación, definir proporciones y demás, como una forma de prevención.
With a flat brush, we are going to paint the surface of the metal sheet black. We will wait for it to dry and apply as many coats of paint as we deem necessary to ensure the surface is well covered. After that, we will take the graphite pencil and sketch the outline of the heart. In my case, I am not an expert at drawing directly on canvases, which is why I make the sketch to determine the best placement, define proportions, and so on, as a form of prevention.
Ahora viene la parte más interesante y entretenida, que es pintar el corazón. Elegí una imagen de referencia que se ve como hecha con una técnica de pintura en particular; no es acuarela, parece más bien un efecto óleo. Por tanto, lo que hago primero es colocar el color base, que sería el más oscuro, y luego ir añadiendo las manchas de colores más claros en las zonas que necesitan más brillo; esto ayudará a dar volumen y profundidad al diseño. Para este estilo de diseño, yo suelo trabajar con los pinceles de punta fina y medianos, con toques o pinceladas sueltas para poder dar ese efecto y textura tan particular.
Now comes the most interesting and enjoyable part, which is painting the heart. I chose a reference image that looks like it was made with a particular painting technique; it’s not watercolor, but rather an oil effect. Therefore, what I do first is apply the base color, which would be the darkest one, and then start adding lighter color patches in the areas that need more brightness; this will help give volume and depth to the design. For this style of design, I usually work with fine-tipped and medium brushes, using loose strokes or brushstrokes to achieve that particular effect and texture.
Vamos a tomar una porción pequeña de rojo, otra de carmín y otra de negro; una pizca en comparación a los colores que colocamos al principio. Mezclamos y pintamos la base del corazón. En mi caso, a veces me gusta pintar por encima de las líneas bases que realicé y otras veces prefiero no pintarlas para poder seguir guiándome de ellas, pero ustedes pueden hacerlo de la forma que se les haga más fácil. Lo bueno de que las líneas están trazadas con grafito es que al momento de añadir la primera capa de pintura se siguen viendo un poco al fondo.
We will take a small portion of red, another of crimson, and another of black; just a pinch compared to the colors we used at the beginning. We mix them and paint the base of the heart. In my case, sometimes I like to paint over the base lines I made, and other times I prefer not to paint them so I can continue using them as a guide, but you can do it in whatever way feels easier for you. The good thing about having the lines drawn with graphite is that when we add the first layer of paint, they are still somewhat visible in the background.
Seguimos creando en nuestra paleta un tono más claro que el de base, añadiendo un poco más de rojo. Posteriormente, vamos a añadir solo rojo y carmín para que quede el tono puro y brillante; este podría definirse como el color base o estándar que debería tener el corazón. Ya no estamos hablando de brillos ni sombras, sino del color normal. Y así se va creando este efecto de degradado que no se ve liso ni progresivo, sino más bien como por niveles planos, que en lo personal siento que se ve muy interesante.
We continue creating a lighter shade on our palette by adding a bit more red. Next, we will add only red and crimson to achieve a pure and bright tone; this could be defined as the base color that the heart should have. We are no longer talking about highlights or shadows, but rather the normal color. And this is how we create this gradient effect that doesn’t look smooth or progressive but rather like flat levels, which I personally find very interesting.
Ahora vamos con la parte de los brillos, que es lo que termina de dar mayor detalle al volumen del corazón. A nuestro color base le vamos a añadir un toque de fucsia; esto hará que el color suba un tono y le añadirá un poco más de brillo sin perder saturación. A la siguiente mezcla sí le vamos a añadir un toquecito de blanco; quedará un rojo un poco más claro, luego un rosa, luego en rosa pastel y finalmente un rosa ultra claro. Recuerden llevar a cabo el procedimiento con toquecitos de pincel o con pinceladas no tan pensadas para que quede algo más dinámico y orgánico.
Now we move on to the highlights, which is what ultimately adds more detail to the volume of the heart. We will add a touch of fuchsia to our base color; this will raise the color a tone and add a bit more brightness without losing saturation. For the next mix, we will add a little touch of white; it will become a slightly lighter red, then a pink, then a pastel pink, and finally an ultra-light pink. Remember to carry out the procedure with small brush touches or less thought-out brushstrokes so that it appears more dynamic and organic.
Ya para los detalles finales decidí colocar blanco roto con un poquito de rojo para añadir estos pequeños puntos blancos que me parecieron muy bonitos. Ahora el último detalle será colocar las líneas que tiene el corazón, que son como las hendiduras entre sí. Decidí utilizar un poco de rojo fucsia, morado y negro para obtener un tono vino tinto profundo y poder dar dichos detalles sin llegar a un color tan pesado o contrastante como el negro.
Now we move on to the final details; I decided to use off-white with a little bit of red to add these small white dots that I found very pretty. The last detail will be to add the lines that the heart has, which are like the indentations between them. I chose to use a bit of fuchsia red, purple, and black to achieve a deep burgundy tone and to add those details without reaching a color as heavy or contrasting as black.
Una vez se seque nuestro diseño, vamos a barnizarlo con el top coat. Añadimos una capa principalmente en la parte de arriba y damos cuántas sesiones de lámpara amerite hasta que se seque. Luego, por los laterales, repetimos dicho procedimiento y damos una capa final que iremos sellando por partes: sellamos primero la de arriba y luego ubicamos la chapa para que pueda ir secándose por los costados; eso hará que el barniz final se vea uniforme.
Once our design dries, we will varnish it with a top coat. We apply a layer mainly on the top and give as many sessions under the lamp as necessary until it dries. Then, on the sides, we repeat this procedure and give a final layer that we will seal in parts: we first seal the top and then place the bottle cap so that it can start drying on the sides; this will ensure that the final varnish looks uniform.
Ahora solo nos queda colocarle el corchelata. Lo vamos a doblar un poco para que sea posible introducir la nodriza y que se sostenga. Definimos el lugar en donde lo queremos ubicar y, con silicón líquido o caliente, lo vamos a adherir a la parte trasera de la chapa.
Now we just need to attach the bottle cap. We will bend it a little so that it is possible to insert the nipple and hold it in place. We define where we want to position it and, with liquid or hot silicone, we will adhere it to the back of the bottle cap.
Por último, lo que tienen que hacer es abrir el imperdible y meter la parte de la base entre el espacio que quedó en las anillas del corchelata, de esta manera.
Finally, what you need to do is open the safety pin and insert the base part into the space left in the rings of the bottle cap, like this.
Ahora solo repetimos el procedimiento y hacemos uno del color que más nos guste, nos parezca o le guste a nuestr@ compañer@. Creo que son cosas muy bonitas que se pueden compartir como un lindo gesto de amor, amistad, cariño o unión de algún tipo.
Now we just repeat the procedure and make one in the color that we like the most, that seems appealing, or that our friend likes. I think these are very nice things that can be shared as a lovely gesture of love, friendship, affection, or any kind of unity.
Y eso sería todo; solo quedaría adherirlo a donde ustedes quieran. Puede ser una chaqueta, una mochila, una camisa, unos jeans o lo que sea que se les ocurra.
