Hace unos días fue el cumpleaños de mi hermana y quise hacer un cake Topper con la inicial de su nombre, mi idea original era hacerla con cartulina espejo, pero como el presupuesto no me lo permitió decidí hacer lo que mejor se hacer, resolver con el material que tengo y es que desde que comencé mi camino artístico me adueñe de las frases "haz mucho con lo poco" y "los materiales no hacen al artista" y hasta el momento me ha funcionado, eh aprendido a hacer varias cosas con el poco material que he podido comprar y eh podido elaborar manualidades muy lindas con poco presupuesto.
A few days ago was my sister’s birthday, and I wanted to make a cake topper with the initial of her name. My original idea was to make it out of mirror cardstock, but since my budget didn’t allow for it, I decided to do what I do best: make do with the materials I have. Ever since I started my artistic journey, I’ve taken to heart the sayings “ make the most of what you have" and "materials don’t make the artist"—and so far, it’s worked for me. I’ve learned to make all sorts of things with the few materials I’ve been able to buy, and I’ve been able to create really cute crafts on a tight budget.
Y está vez no fue la excepción ya que ame el resultado de ambos Toppers y adivinen qué, uno de ellos es para mí sí, porque en agosto también es mi cumpleaños 🎂 y nunca me había hecho un Topper, los hago para todos menos para mí y está vez decidí consentirme, pero ya sin más preámbulo los dejo con el paso a paso de esta manualidad. 🥰
And this time was no exception—I loved the results of both toppers, and guess what? One of them is for me—yes, because my birthday is also in August 🎂, and I’d never made a topper for myself before. I make them for everyone else but myself, and this time I decided to treat myself. But without further ado, here’s the step-by-step guide to this craft. 🥰

El procedimiento es súper fácil, ya lo he explicado varias veces, no tiene nada de ciencia, solo traspase los moldes de la hoja blanca al foami, y recorte, en este caso la letra "O" que es la inicial del nombre de mi hermana, primero recorte la "O" que va en color fucsia escarchado, está sería la primera "O."
The process is super easy—I've explained it several times already. It's not rocket science: just trace the shapes from the white sheet onto the foam, and cut them out. In this case, the letter "O," which is the first letter of my sister's name. First, I cut out the "O" in frosted fuchsia—that would be the first "O."
Cómo este es un Topper en 3D requiere de varias capas de foami, teniendo la primeros "O" en foami fucsia escarchado, procedi a sacar la siguiente "O" en blanco escarchado y para ello me guíe de la "O" anterior y recorte dejando medio centímetro de margen, por la tanto la siguiente "O" será más grande.
Since this is a 3D topper, it requires several layers of foam. I started with the first "O" made of frosted fuchsia foam. Next, I cut out the next "O" in frosted white, using the previous "O" as a guide and leaving a half-centimeter margin, so the next "O" will be larger.
Luego use la "O" que saque en color blanco, para sacar la "O" más grande en color rosado sencillo. Me encanta este tipo de combinaciones de foami escarchado, luego foami blanco de base y luego otra capa de base en el color pero en foami sencillo, me gusta mucho porque queda visualmente estetico. También como aplique recorte una corona de foami dorado escarchado. Está corona para mí fue un desafío ya que no tengo cúter de precisión y sin esta herramienta es un poco difícil, pero sé logro. 🙌🏻🥰
Then I used the white "O" I’d cut out to cut out a larger "O" in plain pink foam. I love this kind of combination—frosted foam on top, white foam as the base, and then another base layer in the same color but made of plain foam. I really like it because it looks so aesthetically pleasing. I also cut out a crown from glittery gold foam. This crown was a challenge for me since I don’t have a precision cutter, and without that tool it’s a bit difficult, but I managed to do it. 🙌🏻🥰
Luego comencé a armar la letra, y como es una letra en 3D hay que darle altura, para esto uso foami y silicón líquido, como pueden ver es súper sencillo, es solo colocar una letra encima de la otra, colocando las más grandes abajo y la más pequeña arriba y dándole altura con los trozos de foami.
Then I started putting the letters together, and since they're 3D letters, you have to give them some height. To do this, I use foam and liquid silicone. As you can see, it's super easy—you just stack the letters on top of each other, placing the larger ones on the bottom and the smallest one on top, and adding height with pieces of foam.
Luego comencé a decorarla, y para eso use la corona que recorte antes, solo que antes le coloqué también una base de foami escarchado blanco, para que resaltará mejor su color y su forma, porque sino siento que el diseño de la corona se pierde un poco sin esa base blanca. Luego también coloque el palillo de altura y como toque súper mega hiper especial le coloque una rosa blanca que hice hace unas semanas atrás porque quería aprender a hacer rosas eternas. Sentí que aún le falta algo y decidí que quedarían bien unas hojas, así que hice unas con foami escarchado dorado para no romper la armonía de colores.
Then I started decorating it, and for that I used the crown I’d cut out earlier—but first I added a white frosted foam base so its color and shape would stand out better, because otherwise I feel like the crown’s design gets lost a bit without that white base. Then I also added the tall stick, and as a super-mega-hyper-special touch, I added a white rose I’d made a few weeks ago because I wanted to learn how to make eternal roses. I felt it was still missing something, so I decided some leaves would look good—I made some out of gold-glitter foam to keep the color harmony intact.
Y este fue el resultado, la verdad me gustó muchísimo aunque en un principio no estaba segura de la rosa eterna con cinta, porque pensé estaba muy grande para la letra, la verdad es que me arriesgue y me alegra haberlo hecho porque a mí hermana le encantó el detalle de la rosa blanca de cinta y eso me hace muy feliz. 🥰💕🥹
And this was the result. I really loved it, even though at first I wasn't sure about the eternal rose with the ribbon—I thought it was too big for the letter. But I took a chance, and I'm glad I did because my sister loved the detail of the white rose with the ribbon, and that makes me so happy. 🥰💕🥹
También quiero mostrarles como quedo mi cake Topper ¡Bellísimo! 🥰 Jamás me había hecho un Topper, siempre le hago a los demás y mis tortas nunca tienen Topper jajaja pero está vez me propuse a hacerme uno, aunque fuese una letra no más y sí, mi nombre real comienza con "Z" 💕 como pueden ver ambos Toppers tienen en común la corona, pero el de mi hermana tiene una rosa y el mío una mariposa 🦋🥰 además lo hice de color turquesa, ya saben que es uno de mis colores favoritos.
I also want to show you how my cake topper turned out—it’s gorgeous! 🥰 I’d never made a topper for myself before; I always make them for others, and my cakes never have toppers, hahaha, but this time I decided to make one for myself, even if it was just a single letter—and yes, my real name starts with “Z.” 💕 As you can see, both toppers have a crown in common, but my sister’s has a rose and mine has a butterfly 🦋🥰 Plus, I made mine turquoise—you know that’s one of my favorite colors.
