Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Spellmonger.
Featured cards
Spellmonger is a neutral splinter that costs 4 mana. This splinter starts with the thorns and untrainable ability. This card can't be weapon-trained, so it can be limited in some cases. I do use this card from time to time in Frontier because it could be useful in some rulesets/lineups.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The rulesets this time are No Pain, No Gain and Super Sneak. This means that all monsters gain the painforge and melee monsters gain the sneak ability. There are also 26 mana available, and I can use only death splinter.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thalgrimore | 6 | Summoner | -1 Health |
| Nim Guard Captain | 7 | 1st | Void |
| Sorrow Harvester | 7 | 2nd | Weaken |
| Spellmonger | 4 | 3rd | Thorns |
| Total Mana: | 24 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Thalgrimore for the -1 health. Nim Guard Captain is my void, followed by Sorrow Harvester with weaken. Finally, I have Spellmonger with thorns for those melee monsters.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent doesn't have high level cards, and thorns will kill off my opponent's damage dealers in the back. My lineup will just have more damage than my opponent after that.
Round 6
A few rounds later, my opponent has 1 monster left, but I still have 2 of mine. It's my win because my magic monster can't miss.
I won the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. I won because Spellmonger just wiped out my opponent's backline. By combining Sorrow Harvester and my Archon, thorns was all that I needed to wipe them out. Following that, my lineup just overpowered my opponent.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
