Liam y Lesly

Liam and Lesly

Last month, Liam Morrison, a 12-year-old boy was expelled from his Massachusetts school for wearing a T-shirt with the slogan "There are only two genders". In his defense, the boy rebels against the teachers who wanted to make him believe that with his T-shirt he was hurting the susceptibility of his classmates, which never happened and which culminated in turning the tables, that is, with Liam giving a lesson in tolerance and freedom of expression to his teachers.

The other case that seems to us worth mentioning was the appearance of the four Colombian children who spent forty days lost in the jungle. They were saved by knowing what to eat and what not to eat; how to find clean water and how to stay alive in a hostile environment for any living being and more so for four defenseless little ones; but Lesly Jacobombaire Mucutuy, 13 years old, was the girl who kept alive her nine and four year old siblings and an eleven month old baby.

When we are in the presence of these realities we are amazed by their hopefulness; a kind of joy overwhelms us because of the quality of the protagonists, the context, adverse in both cases for the children, but from which they came out unscathed and without provoking a hint of evil; on the contrary, they left us beautiful lessons that serve to think about them, reflect on them and keep them alive for our usual routine of life.

Liam and Lesly have renewed our desire to fight against eternal and new misfortunes. The eternal ones, which are the same as always, our fears and darkness in the face of adversities, against monsters that are infinite: the system, the state, wars, catastrophes, natural phenomena; Lesly defeated the jungle because her will to live was powerful, firm and because she knew how to move in this hostile environment.

Liam, on the other hand, faced the new progressive ideologies, which emerge with their terrible load of domination, with their imposing avalanche that wants to break through, but by force, overpowering with intolerance as if everyone had to accept what they propose, what they practice more than with freedom with libertinism.

There must be many Liam and Lesly in the world and our job is to continue multiplying them because they are the ones that motivate us to continue clinging to life and defending freedom as the most precious good of the individual.
