To be honest I never remember that the first of August is the day of the Earth, of the Pachamama as they say in the initiative; but in my defense I claim that my relationship with planet Earth is honest, and it is so since I put my nose in the world, since my first day of that October 1978 when my mother, an immeasurable peasant woman gave birth to me in the old grandparents' house; so I am sure I have not been changed; it is a fact that many believe that it is them, but they forget that in hospitals when mothers get careless or fall asleep, they change their children, and sometimes the change favors the parents, especially when they give them a more beautiful one than the one they gave birth to; in my case it is me, there was no way to change me, so my mother had to be satisfied because I was the only one born in the countryside that day.
But back to the Earth; I was telling you that I was born in the countryside, I learned to crawl on the ground, later to walk and shortly after to climb trees; I had a first Darwinian type evolution and that helped me to have a happy childhood; since I was a child I learned to swim and to fear the rivers, water has no grip; I survived the long walks my father took in search of his animals; I knew which wild fruit was edible, which tree I should not get close to, when I knew I was exhausted and that taught me that nature is neither good nor bad, that you have to know how to measure yourself against it.
Since I was a child I have been happy and it is partly thanks to the direct contact with nature; with the contact with the earth, with its smell, with its elements: water, air, fire; that is why every time I can, (and when I can't I take the time), I go to revitalize myself with the renewing forces of the rivers, with the fierce tenderness of the wind, with the humidity of the mud; every time I neglect, I appear in the countryside and leave the stress, the bad vibes, the worries; I give myself to the Earth, to its beauties, I enjoy its natural phenomena because that makes me happy, because they are different moments and you have to make them intense so that happiness also gets used to you.
One last thing to finish; 4 years ago I was sick with sadness, the economic situation of my country, the queues, food shortages, impunity, sick relatives; all that hurt me deeply, and it got worse when my then sentimental partner died, practically in my arms, because of the damn shortage of dialysis treatment; After a few months I had to see my daughter depart far from my arms; I was left worth nothing as they say in Creole; I did not sleep, I cried without wanting to and I cried when I was consciously crying; but then I was invited to the jungle and there I was saved.
I arrived skinny, cadaverous; dead in life. Four months later I knew how to handle a bongo; I had navigated the Inírida, Guaviare, Atabapo and Orinoco rivers; I knew many native ethnic groups; I was discovering the life of the jungle, its paths, the music of the birds, the danger that teaches you to be alert; I had met the ideal person, Jaír Gutiérrez, who knew how to live in the intricate Colombian Amazon and he taught me. He not only gave me a roof over my head and peace of mind, he gave me his experience and a year and a half later, I was a different person; my eyes sparkled when I swam in the lagoons, my walks through the natural parks revitalized me, I bathed in the smell of the earth; never before had I felt so alive and all thanks to this reencounter with the healing forces of nature. Since then I know that we are earth and we will return to the earth, but while we are alive we must know it, value it and enjoy it healthily.
