I think it's no secret to anyone that historic events have unfolded in my country today. A process has begun that, for the first time in a long time, fills me with hope, but also keeps me on edge. In just a few hours, going out into the street felt like being back in 2016, when people were desperately searching for food in the stores, standing in long lines, and afraid of being attacked by armed motorcyclists; people easily forgot that Christmas and New Year's had just ended, and I think the only thing that reminds us that today is January 3rd are the Christmas decorations at home.
Creo que no es un secreto para nadie que hoy han ocurrido sucesos históricos en mi país. Se ha iniciado un proceso que por primera vez en mucho tiempo me hace sentir esperanza, pero que igual me mantiene a la expectativa. En pocas horas salir a la calle se ha sentido como salir nuevamente al 2016, donde la gente estaba desesperada buscando la comida en los negocios, haciendo largas colas y con miedo a ser atacados por motorizados asesinos; fácilmente la gente olvidó que acaba de terminar la navidad y el año nuevo, y creo que lo único que nos recuerda que hoy es 3 de Enero son las decoraciones navideñas en casa.
The images I'm sharing with you today aren't from my own house, but from my mother-in-law's house, where I celebrated the start of 2026. They humbly managed to create magic with the combination of so many decorations and different colored Christmas lights. I think they did it because there are children in the house, but when I arrived, I felt so happy, since we don't decorate or put up lights to that extent. It was so inspiring that I took these photos with my phone to remember New Year's Eve 2025 and to connect with the feeling of these lights of hope as we began the new year. Estas imágenes que les comparto hoy no son de mi propia casa, sino de la casa de mi suegra, donde recibí el año 2026. Humilmente lograron hacer magia con la combinación de tantas decoraciones y distintos colores de luces navideñas. Creo que lo hicieron porque hay niños en la casa, pero cuando yo llegué me sentí muy feliz, ya que nosotros no decoramos ni colocamos luces a ese nivel. Fue tanto que me inspiré a tomar estas fotografías con mi teléfono para recordar lo que fue la noche vieja de 2025, y conectar con el sentimiento de estas luces de esperanza para iniciar el año.
