I know I often say the same thing about all our concerts, but wow, singing Gustav Mahler's second symphony this weekend was a dream experience. I couldn't help but hold back tears at this extraordinary finale, the last three minutes in particular being an ode to the afterlife. The orchestra was impeccable, the sound of the choir more professional than ever, you can appreciate it in this short video I share above, and the direction of Christian V谩squez was the secret of success; years go by and this man gives himself more and more to music.

This second symphony by Mahler meant a lot to me, and not only because of the presence of my mother and the strength of the lyrics we interpreted, but also because in spite of singing only the last fifteen minutes of the work for the first time I dared to do it in my tenor register, and I have always been afraid of this ending, it is very sharp even for basses, but I went out of my comfort zone and I feel very satisfied, my faith in myself increased, although I still think that Mahler went a little crazy when he wrote the chorus of the fifth movement 馃槄 I would say that it is for singers from another world, but now I listen to this video and I see that it is possible to do it with us earthlings.
Esta segunda sinfon铆a de Mahler signific贸 mucho para m铆, y no solo por la presencia de mi mam谩 y la fuerza de la letra que interpretamos, sino que a pesar de cantar solo los 煤ltimos quince minutos de la obra por primera vez me atrev铆 a hacerlo en mi registro de tenor, y es que siempre le he tenido temor a este final, es muy agudo incluso para los bajos, pero sal铆 de mi zona de confort y me siento muy satisfecho, mi fe en m铆 mismo aument贸, aunque sigo pensando que Mahler enloqueci贸 un poco al escribir el coro del quinto movimiento 馃槄 dir铆a que es para cantantes de otro mundo, pero ahora escucho este video y veo que s铆 es posible hacerlo con nosotros los terr铆colas.

I noticed the growth of this orchestra called Juan Jos茅 Landaeta, which is the second professional group after our pride, the Sim贸n Bol铆var, also, evidently the sound of the choir is very mature, and this time we were accompanied by the Joven Coral 脕ngel Sauce, the new group of professional singers, which now has almost the same number of members as us. They are 89 and we are 91, and when I make these calculations I always remember the dream of Maestro Jos茅 Antonio Abreu to have a great national choir of 200 singers... It is practically another goal already accomplished 鉂わ笍 I ended the day with a well-deserved toast together with my mom, satisfied, happy and feeling my dad's company between us through music, blood and soul 馃檹

Not茅 el crecimiento de esta orquesta llamada Juan Jos茅 Landaeta, que es la segunda agrupaci贸n profesional luego de nuestro orgullo, la Sim贸n Bol铆var, adem谩s, evidentemente el sonido del coro es muy maduro, y esta vez nos acompa帽贸 la Joven Coral 脕ngel Sauce, la nueva agrupaci贸n de cantantes profesionales y que ahora tiene casi la misma cantidad de integrantes que nosotros. Ellos son 89 y nosotros somos 91, y cuando saco estas cuentas siempre recuerdo el sue帽o del Maestro Jos茅 Antonio Abreu de tener un gran coro nacional de 200 cantantes... Pr谩cticamente ya es otra meta cumplida 鉂わ笍 Termin茅 el d铆a con un merecido brindis junto a mi mam谩, satisfecho, feliz y sintiendo la compa帽铆a de mi pap谩 entre nosotros a trav茅s de la m煤sica, la sangre y el alma 馃檹
