Yesterday something very curious and very uncomfortable happened to me, but I am glad I experienced it, because thanks to it I can see how I am doing in my process of personal growth. It is good to discover that I have made great progress, but at the same time I dare to say that I still fail on my way to peace of mind.
Life has taught me many things in the past few years, especially last year, 2023. There have been so many low blows that truly many things no longer surprise me, and others I have learned to see before they happen. I have been very inspired by a Hiver from here, her name is @palomap3, and in fact recently she told me something that I can't get out of my mind: “lose the shame of being who I really am”, wow, after thinking about it a lot, well yes, I have discovered that for many years I didn't show myself as I really am, I said yes to everyone, even if I didn't want to, and in fact I was surrounded by friends, friends that now I know were fake, because everyone was happy with a fool who did everything to fit in....
Those days are behind me, it all started by defending my girl, my mom, my dad and my brother, but now I defend myself. I always said it didn't matter if they did everything to me, as long as they didn't hurt the people I love and I was overprotective. Maybe I still am, but now I am included in that list of people, and in fact I found out that I should have always been the first.
I am no longer ashamed to say “no” to my friends, I no longer feel bad if those people walk away if they don't like my decisions, although this is a more recent feeling, but there is something that keeps happening to me and makes me realize that I am not ready yet, and it is complicated because it is my personality, my essence?
I can already say no with forcefulness and respect, and I can already put limits to what I don't like, I would have loved to develop that ability many years ago, but it turns out that I still feel bad after doing it... Let me explain myself better; I don't mind if a person walks out of my life for making something clear to them that I don't like, but causing them the discomfort, and that surprise reaction for them still makes me feel bad. I don't show them, but I can spend the whole day and even night thinking about it, feeling bad, thinking if I did right, if it was necessary. It may seem silly of me, but it is precisely the kind of thing I have never liked to have done to me, the difference being that despite the surprise I always accepted very graciously whenever someone set their limits or told me no to a favor, even if it hurt.
I had been putting up with a situation with someone at work for days, and I couldn't take it anymore and as gracefully as I could I let him know again what I didn't like. Yes, again, I had told him before and that makes me think he was doing it to me on purpose. It seems that he understood, and I don't care if he walks away, he is not a pleasant person for me, but I don't get used to be like that with people, it's more than 30 years of submission. Maybe the music helped me calm down a bit, but here I am, writing a post 24 hours after what happened. Obviously I'm not ready yet, but boy do I have the tools to assert myself. Still, avoiding conflicts and conflictive people will always be the best option, but their nature will make them try to get to you in some way...
