On Thursday last week, my son turned five. He was extremely excited about his birthday. It is the first time I have seen him so enthusiastic about a birthday.
I made sure to make his birthday special, and I was glad to see him so happy. He had a wonderful time with his friends. I'm so proud of him and look forward to many more birthdays to come.
In his previous birthdays, he has also had fun, but he probably doesn't really understand what a birthday is. On that Thursday, I packed a little non-edible gift for him to share with his classmates. I was happy to see him smile when his classmates sang him a birthday song. It was a nice surprise for him.
The purpose of this post is to share what we did on Saturday and Sunday for the weekend experience community.
After his birthday that Thursday, we also planned to bake a cake and take it to church on Sunday. This was so he would share something sweet and celebrate the birthday with his friends at church too. My sister @treasuree was the baker, and the cake was delicious! The ingredients had been ready since Wednesday, but we didn't begin baking and decorating until Saturday.
The batter was almost finished by my older sister @glorydee before it was baked because she couldn't stop licking it. I found it funny that someone complaining of stomach ache felt okay eating more sugar. Although my mom tried to stop her from eating more sugar, she was allowed to eat as much as she liked. It's her stomach, not ours. Hehe
I liked the fact that baking and decorating the cake did not take a lot of time, and it turned out looking beautiful and tasting great, too.
Upon getting ready for church this morning, I covered the cake with nylon wrap meant for cakes and carried it as I walked to church. The cake was so heavy, and I could only take a bike to church because it was the only available means, it was so difficult for me to carry as well. Even though the journey to church wasn't easy, I endured.
When I arrived at church, my sister Treasuree was already there, so I asked her to help me take some pictures so I could share them here. She agreed and took several pictures of me. We talked for a bit and then she went off to chat with her friends. I felt grateful for her help and for the opportunity to capture the moment.
When I saw the first snap shot, I asked her to take more with the celebrant. One thing about him is that, rather than looking into the camera, he looks at the photographer instead. Before we took that picture, I kept telling him to look at the camera instead of my sister's face. I guess he felt disturbed and decided to just frown his face hehe Okay here's an unaware photo. It's ugly, I know. 😄
I then took the cake to an office in the church and ensured that it was safe until the end of the service. Upon dismissal of the service, it remained right where I kept it, as I had expected. I went to meet the children's teacher's and told her that my son Nathaniel brought a cake to church and would like to take pictures with it and share it with the children.
When she saw that there were some little children in the crowd, she didn't hesitate to gather them together. Others were busy doing other things. However, we managed to get some nice shots.
Yes, you are right, the children are distracted as well, that's why so many of them are looking at something else instead of the camera.
There are so many pictures I'm afraid I may not be able to upload them all. This picture shows my mom, dad, and my sister's children who are Nathaniel's cousins. We also have a family photo with Nathaniel.
Finally, after the cake was shared, everyone enjoyed their piece, and just before we left the church grounds, I snapped Nathaniel with my snap chat app. That was the last shot before we entered a bike and left the church grounds.
It filled my heart with joy to see him so happy to celebrate his birthday with his friend, he appreciated everything and was happy to share and celebrate with him.
I pray we have many more reasons to celebrate until June 1, 2024. Seeing his face light up and his eyes twinkle with joy was a sight to behold. I am so proud of him and the person he is growing into. I hope he will continue to find joy in life’s little moments.
I will always be here to support him in every way I can. I believe he will reach his full potential and have an amazing life filled with meaningful experiences and joy. He deserves to be happy and have a life full of love and laughter.
