A few years ago, I had a vehicle turn in front of me, damaged my car. It was still drivable, but while USAA paid for the repairs, AAA was supposed to help me with a rental car. Their exclusive contract was with Hertz.
Now, here in Atl at that time (maybe still) the ONLY large outlet for Hertz was at the Hartsfield-Jackson airport. I had no way of getting down there and didn't want to anyway, plus my needs were for something like a hatchback of van so I could transport my music gear.
Not finding anything through Hertz, the AAA people really did bend over backwards to try and find me something. They contacted Enterprise, which has outlets all over the place, and their website said "yes, we have minivans" but because of some event going on that weekend, there was NONE to be found, but they SAID they had me one.
I went to pick it up (got a ride from a landlord) and what had been reserved was a limo van, you could have put 15 people in that thing.
Wrangled a bit and got me something to use, but that was an ordeal.
