Emeka: She cannot stay here tonight because you didn't inform me that she will be spending the night here, besides where do you expect me to sleep tonight?
Ugo: You must be mad. My girlfriend is going to stay here tonight and you will have to excuse us. Please look for somewhere to pass the night.
THIS IS A TRUE LIFE STORY
Emeka and Ugo were best friends and were room mates at the same time. They pay for everything in their one room apartment in Lagos, Nigeria equally. Both of them had equal rights and ownership to the room.
One day, Ugo brought home his girlfriend, Stella to pass the night without informing his friend Emeka. It was late in the night and Emeka had no plan of spending the night out of his room that night.
Ugo was being aggressive and kept ordering Emeka to leave the room for him and his girlfriend. They both raised voices at each other. Ugo being very angry that his best friend has refused to corporate with him, picked up a knife and stabbed Emeka in his neck.
If you don't learn to control anger, then it will definitely control you. There must be a control from either party.
Emeka screamed and fell to the ground. It was late at night. It was like a joke. Emeka lost alot of blood an gave up the ghost. The neighbourhood was in chaos. Ugo couldn't believe it. A little minute of uncontrollable anger had made him take the life of his best friend all because of a woman.
This is a true life story and it is very sad everytime I remember it.
IT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED
If one of them was willing to sacrifice for the other, it could have been avoided.
Emeka was right. He wasn't informed. Ugo had no right to displace him without prior information. He could have slept in a neighbours room for peace to reign even though he knew he was right. Now he is dead just because his best friend couldn't understand him. It could have been avoided.
Ugo refused to reason. He was hungry for sex with his girlfriend. He wanted to have a good time but couldn't have it in the end. He ended up killing his best friend because of a girl. This is the worst day of his life and it will keep hunting him as he was sentenced to death for killing his friend.
THE LESSONS TO LEARN
- Do all you can to stay away from violence. A little disagreement can cost you something very important. It might not necessarily be your life, but something important.
- Sometimes play the fool. If Emeka was willing to play the fool and he slept outside or in a neighbour's place, he might have still been alive today.
- Little uncontrolled anger can cost you alot. Work on your temper. It can be worked on. It is a thing of the mind and it can be controlled.
Say no to every form of violence. You might be avoiding something very dangerous by keeping calm. Agreeing most times can keep you off from quarrelling. Sometimes you just have to agree to avoid quarrelling even if you know that you are right and very correct.
