A TRUE LIFE STORY

Mr Lawrence Ozoemena was a well to do man who came from a very humble background. He lived a life of lack and want in the days of his youth. The circumstances surrounding his life made him determined to be very successful.

He went to the University to get a degree in Civil Engineering. He did so well in school in the first year and got a scholarship to finish school in the second year of school. The scholarship was an answer to the many lack and want he faced from home.

His mother was just a teacher with a salary of about $30 monthly. He had other siblings who the mother had to take care of. Life was very tough. His father separated from his mum when he was much more younger. They had to struggle to survive.

The scholarship Mr Lawrence got was enough to see him through school and it helped him to graduate as the best student in his department/faculty. Now he has started to achieve and there were lots of job offers for him even before he went for his NYSC.

After NYSC in an oil company, Mr Lawrence got a job that transformed him from abject poverty to glorious riches. He was able to get an apartment in one of the expensive estates in the city. He decided to get married and settle down. Life was good and everything was going well.

He forgot his mother and siblings who were there with him in times of pain and poverty. Mr Lawrence became richer, bigger and better. He got several promotions and was sent as an expatriate to a foreign country to help in the affairs of his organization in that foreign country.

Mr Lawrence was so rich and he was investing big time in several businesses. His family wasn't carried along in these several businesses. His mother was there, trying to fight several sicknesses. Most times when Mr Lawrence is contacted by his mum or siblings for financial assistance, he always claims there is no money. There has never been a day when there was money available.

Mr Lawrence rode on the most expensive cars, but he never bought his mum a bicycle, neither did he buy a wheelbarrow for his siblings. In his heart and mind, he was doing them good by sending them about $100 every month for their feeding and he also took care of their accommodation.

One faithful day, news came that Mr Lawrence was admitted into the hospital because he had a heart attack. He lost money in 3 different investments worth over $3.5million. He called his mum to pray for him. His mum was amazed that her son had such an amount of money and didn't bring her out of poverty. She still prayed for him, hoping that someday, she will be remembered.

She doesn't hate her son. She still prays for Mr Lawrence. Her major prayer has been that her other 2 children will rise up to become so wealthy that she wouldn't need to ask Mr Lawrence for money or any help. Because of Mr Lawrence's financial predicaments as he has claimed, his mum hasn't been able to get any allowance as she does before. Things are very tough for her.

I hope that Mr Lawrence has learnt his lessons and that his mum will be met at the point of all her needs. Mr Lawrence doesn't need to die before realizing that it is too late, neither does his mum need to die before realizing her importance.

Let us all live our lives well and remember to help our families, especially the immediate family members rise out of lack, poverty, and the world will be a better place. Cheers!
