Lots done today. It started off with a bagpipe lesson. I am learning how to do several of the embellishments that are required with this type of playing. I did not quite practice as much as I wanted due to a sinus infection. Will do better next week.
I practiced a bit at the piano, checking memory work on a couple of Debussy's pieces from Children's Corner and Schumann's Carnaval as well as warming up for a recital later in the afternoon. The recital was a Senior final recital so one of our students can graduate. She sang well, singing works from the Baroque up to the present day in Italian, French, German, and English.
Afterwards, my wife and I went to the reopening of the Art Gallery downtown. There was a lot of changes in the building just within the course of the year. Some neat exhibits.
Then, off to the church for practice. I worked on my prelude for tomorrow: Mark Roberts arrangement of Descend, O Spirit of God. It's not overly difficult until the last page where a descant is added in the top part of the organ. For the postlude, I am playing Bach's Prelude and Fugue in E minor, BWV 533. An early work, there are a couple of tricky spots where coordinating the feet with the hands is a problem. Now, I am off to cook dinner of hamburgers and roasted potatoes and watch the last Hobbit movie: the Battle of Five Armies before bed.
