This week, for the first time, I visited a small town Novi Becej, located in Banat, Serbia. It was a pleasure to walk through such a quiet and small place, unlike the everyday crowds in a big city. My husband had to buy something there and I took the opportunity to walk around with the kids and take photos for the Wednesday walk. 🙂
The river Tisa flows through Novi Becej and along the river there is a promenade.
It was very warm weather so we could not walk along the promenade but we found a very pleasant place by the river.
There were two restaurants where everyone ate fish soup so we wanted to try it too and that was a good decision. The fish soup was very tasty. And the pleasant environment and peace by the river made it even more delicious.
The restaurant we were sitting in reminded us of Greek taverns. It was nicely decorated.
I liked the pictures of this area from the old days the most. It was interesting to see what this place looked like in the past.
My kids also enjoyed it. The air was fresh and pleasant and the river was very relaxing.
I could sit there for a long time and look at the water. I would never be bored. 🙂
After lunch, we walked through town. We came across a small square that was in the shade of tall trees.
I noticed that the main means of transport here is the bicycle and that is awesome. It is better to ride a bike instead of a car because of health and many other good reasons. In small places, vehicles are not necessary and I am glad that there is an awareness of that because then the pollution is less.
What I especially liked was that all the people know each other. On the street, you can hear them greeting each other all the time. I heard "hello" many times. I wanted to say hello to them as well. 🙂 Locals are very friendly.
Walking through the streets we came across very good ice cream and there we took a break. I will remember Novi Becej for delicious ice cream, for sure. 🙂
On the way home, I saw a stork's nest on a pole and I got out of the car to take a photo. But since my baby was crying I couldn’t wait for the stork to get up to photograph it. 🙂
I am glad to have met this town, thanks to the #wednesdaywalk. 🙂 The greatest pleasure is in exploring new places around.
