A Political thriller
In this movie Hugo Weaving (usually worth watching) portrays V, an anarchist freedom fighter whom happens to save Natalie Portman (Evey) from a group of police officers while she was out after curfew, it is from this point forward that she gets caught up in V's mission.
The movie is set in the UK in the not too distant future where the UK has shut itself off from the rest of the world due to a virus and war taking hold, their measures are somewhat questionable, putting it nicely.
The government of the UK has become a brutal fascist regime that exterminates its opponents in concentration camps, imposes curfew, discourages free thinking, and controls the media. V attempts to ignite a revolution against the government. The lead detective in charge of stopping V is played by Stephen Rea and isn't necessarily an unquestioning loyalist.
The movie is a quite good, worth watching, with one of the views being "People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." and what can happen when the reverse is allowed to happen.
