Do you really retire?
This is best viewed as a comedy with action. Bruce Willis does his standard routine which is still entertaining. Helen Mirren plays her role very well and does the action very well, especially shooting the guns.
Add to this John Malkovich and Morgan Freeman, we end up with a film where everybody is having a fun relaxed time. It almost feels like something done over a summer break to fill in some time and have a laugh before going back to "work".
Not that the story line really matters but here we have Frank (Bruce Willis) who is a retired and bored CIA operative. He fills in his time by calling the pension helpline and chatting with Sarah, she is also bored and spends time reading cheap novels.
When the agency decide that Frank's retirement should end permanently and attempt to do so without success. Frank knows that they will also go after Sarah, so he comes out of retirement to save the girls, put together a crew of other retired spies and to find out why he was earmarked for termination. Frank was willing to accept the title that came with retirement (RED - Retired Extremely Dangerous).
