Things seem a little bit different here on Hive than they were on the other platform.
To be honest I feel like engagement seems a little bit lower. Certainly, there are fewer posts, and it seems like people post less often as well. When I was on the other site, it was fairly common for people to post between two to four times per day. I was guilty of that myself. It just seemed like posting all day was the best idea.
Back then, of course curation rewards were 75% author and 25% curator.
It seems that now the creation rewards are 50% author and 50% curator. That actually makes a lot more sense. The only problem is that it really pushes curation, and that makes you want to vote for people that are going to get high dollar amounts, instead of voting for people of whom you simply enjoy their content.
I say that because it puts a great deal on curation, and I feel like putting more on curation takes a little bit away from putting emphasis on simple enjoyment.
Now when it comes to curation, you could vote up the person that makes $500 per post even though you don't like his content much. A lot of people would probably do that. But if that person has 5000 votes then it really doesn't matter if he makes $500 because the curation rewards are still going to be low. It would make more sense to vote somebody that makes $5 per post even though he doesn't get money votes. You might get a larger chunk that way. So you kind of have to figure out how to get the curation just right I guess.
Frankly... I don't remember how to do it. I think you're supposed to upvote on the 15 minute mark? Maybe it was the 20 minute mark, or maybe it was the 30 minute mark. So what happens if you upvote after two hours? What happens if you upvote after six hours? Do you do you get any curation rewards at that point? How on earth am I supposed to know who's going to post it within 15 minutes of them posting? Oftentimes the dozen or so people that I truly follow don't seem to post for about 6 hours and then they all post after I've gone to bed.
Which makes me think I don't know how to do the curation thing, or if I can even do it correctly at all.
I also see people posting on both sites. The exact same content. I wonder if there's any reason not to do that. I would say crossposting... but it doesn't seem like crossposting anymore. It seems like just posting on this site and then posting on the other side as an afterthought... and hoping to get a few bucks on that site. There are stragglers over there that don't seem like they have any intention of coming over here. In the same way there are people over here that have no intention of going back over there. But then apparently you have the people that are posting here and then posting the same stuff over there and then they get different upvotes from different sorts of people. I guess it is crossposting except that the two streams never truly cross because the people on each site aren't actually seeing each other...except for the poster. I wonder if logistically there's any reason not to do that? Maybe it's why people aren't posting a lot here because they're spending time posting on both sites.
I don't know I'm just trying to figure stuff out.
I'm still going to work on the curation rewards and see if I can get the hang of that at least. If you have any advice feel free to leave it below. Thank you.
