At exactly 2 weeks or 14 days from now, the world-famous Boracay in Aklan, Philippines will be temporarily closed for tourist for six months.
President Duterte recently ordered the island’s closure starting on April 26 due to the lack of a proper sewage system in Boracay. This is the island's biggest environmental problems aside from the failure of the local government to enforce ordinances on marine conservation, garbage and sanitation, and zoning and construction, among others.
This is a very sad development mostly for the people of Aklan because this will create a domino effect. Most businesses will be a temporary shutdown. Unemployment will increase and most livelihood will be suspended for the duration of the closure. Hotel bookings will be canceled and airline flights will be reduced momentarily. In other words, local businesses will definitely be affected.
But on the positive side, the Aklanon's are very optimistic that with all these events after the rehabilitate of their popular tourist destination, the sun will rise again very radiant on Boracay Island and tourist will come again.
Come and see you again on the NEW BORACAY! :-)
