Once upon a time people heard news by mouth, either from a neighbour or some kind of public broadcaster like a town crier.
In just 140 years clever humans have developed recording and broadcasting capabilities that would have been barely imaginable back then.
The British Library has put together an excellent free exhibition from its collection of broadcast samples and associated technologies.
From early wireless and phonographs to MP3s via tapes and more than a few dead ends... anyone remember eight-track cassettes, or even the mini-disk… (I still have a device that plays those!).
Well worth about 30 minutes of your time if you are in the area.
