Bitcoin price vs Google Trends
"In the business world, the rearview mirror is always clearer than the windshield." - Warren Buffett
As a Bitcoin investor woulnd't you dream of crystall ball that tells us if we reached the peak of Bitcoin price.
That crystall ball is Google Trends.
It should not surprise anyone that there is a match between google searches and the bitcoin price. It makes sense that if more people look for Bitcoin, the price goes up. It also makes sense that as the price goes up, people search more about Bitcoin.
The million dollar question is, which comes first?
Lets investigate.
Google trend tops:
Below is the 5 year chart for google searches for the sentence "Buy Bitcoin"
Google trends tops:
13 april 2013
30 november 2013
27 mei 2017
19 augustus 2017
Now the same dates with the corresponding Bitcoin $ price top:
Google trends top (price top)
13 apr 2013 (9 apr)
30 nov 2013 (2 dec)
27 may 2017 (8 jun)
19 aug 2017 (31 aug)
It does look that in general the search interest comes before the price top. That's great news for making predictions.
I do have to mention the Google trends chart is imprecise. It is rough and uses a complex algorithm to determine a score between 0-100. The Bitcoin price chart is fully precise as it comes directly from the market.
When the interest drops, price apprently also drops later:
So what does that top mean on 24 November 2017? Is it a top?
