Last Saturday before going to the coffee fair, I passed by the Obelisco in the city of Barquisimeto. I think it is now called Complejo Turístico El Obelisco. I saw a group of people around a stand and I approached to see what it was all about.
El sábado pasado antes de ir a la feria del café, pasé por el Obelisco en la ciudad de Barquisimeto. Creo que ahora se llama Complejo Turístico El Obelisco. Vi un grupo de personas alrededor de un puesto y me acerque para ver de que se trataba.
A kind of bazaar was held where people who registered with the municipal organization that planned the activity could go to sell used objects. Those who had old things, taking up space in their homes, could try to sell them at this activity.
There were not many stalls, so I had time to stop at each one. There were many things that were of no use to me. Perhaps a collector might find some items attractive. There was a man who had some archaic cell phone cases for sale. They were even in bad shape, so I don't think a collector would want to have that ruined, or maybe he would, I don't know much about the market for collectors of old things.
Se celebraba una especie de bazar donde las personas que se inscribían en la organización municipal que planifico la actividad podían ir a vender allí objetos usados. Los que tenían cosas viejas, que ocupaban espacio en sus casas, podían intentar venderlas en esta actividad.
No había muchos puestos, así que tuve tiempo de pararme en cada uno. Había muchas cosas que no me servían para nada. Quizá algún coleccionista pudiera encontrar atractivos algunos objetos. Había un hombre que tenía a la venta unas fundas de móviles arcaicas. Estaban incluso en mal estado, así que no creo que un coleccionista quisiera tener eso estropeado, o tal vez sí, no se mucho sobre el mercado de los coleccionistas de cosas antiguas.
Seeing so many old things for sale reminded me for a moment of the TV shows where they visit cities and places that appreciate a dump to buy things they can restore and sell. Here I even saw magazines called Mecanica Popular, Ronda, and other magazines from the 80's and 90's editions. I also saw books in another booth, some already obsolete. It was noticeable that the current owner had them for more than 4 decades in his house or maybe he has inherited them from his parents - grandparents and wants to get rid of them that are gathering dust on some shelf.
Ver tantas cosas viejas a la venta me recordó por un momento a los programas de televisión en los que visitan ciudades y lugares que aprecian un vertedero para comprar cosas que puedan restaurar y vender. Aquí vi hasta revistas llamadas Mecánica Popular, Ronda, y otras revistas de ediciones de los 80 y 90. También vi libros en otro stand, algunos ya obsoletos. Se notaba que el actual propietario los tenía desde hace más de 4 décadas en su casa o quizás los ha heredado de sus padres - abuelos y quiere deshacerse de ellos que están cogiendo polvo en alguna estantería.
There were also clothes. You could tell they were old, used clothes. I'm very picky about that. Call me pretentious, but I would only wear old clothes from a very close family member. Now, I have never bought old used clothing from another agent, I don't know who I am wearing it, it could even be from a dead person. I understand that the economic situation is very bad, but I prefer to stick with my boxers with holes in them, but they are mine, bought new at the time.
Of course there were new clothes, they were from people who sew and make clothes to sell. I also saw some shoes that were probably bought in bulk from some national pirate factory, to be resold. There were very affordable prices, so whoever had a few dollars to spare could leave the Obelisco with new shoes.
También había ropa. Se notaba que era ropa vieja y usada. Soy muy exigente con eso. Llamadme pretencioso, pero sólo me pondría ropa vieja de un familiar muy cercano. Ahora bien, nunca he comprado ropa vieja usada de otro agente, no sé quien lo llevo puesto, incluso podría ser de una persona muerta. Entiendo que la situación económica es muy mala, pero prefiero seguir con mis boxers con agujeros, pero son míos, comprados nuevos en su momento.
Por supuesto que había ropa nueva, era de gente que cose y hace ropa para vender. También vi algunos zapatos que probablemente fueron comprados al por mayor en alguna fábrica pirata nacional, para ser revendidos. Había precios muy accesibles, así que quien tuviera unos dólares de sobra podía salir del Obelisco con zapatos nuevos.
In one of the last stalls I stopped at, there were electronic items. Printers, electrical equipment and other things I don't remember. Whoever bought them did so at their own risk. If in well-known stores where they usually sell them new, they usually come out defective, I can't imagine something with more than ten years of use.
I think that for the month of May they are going to make another bazaar of these old things. I'm going to do some research on the subject to see if I can sell some old things I don't want to have in my house, instead of throwing them away, I'll try to earn five dollars to buy four chicken thighs. I'll let you know if I decide to sell my stuff in the next activity.
En uno de los últimos puestos en los que me detuve, había artículos electrónicos. Impresoras, equipos eléctricos y otras cosas que no recuerdo. Quien los compraba lo hacía por su cuenta y riesgo. Si en tiendas conocidas donde suelen venderlos nuevos, suelen salir defectuosos, no me imagino algo con más de diez años de uso.
Creo que para el mes de mayo van a hacer otro bazar de estas cosas viejas. Voy a investigar un poco sobre el tema para ver si puedo vender algunos cacharros viejos que no quiero tener en mi casa, en vez de tirarlos, intentaré ganar cinco dólares para comprar cuatro muslos de pollo. Ya les contaré si me decido a vender mis cosas en la próxima actividad.
