Back in fashion
Is there an out-of-fashion item you would like to come back in to fashion? I'd say manners if I was answering this, but what about you? Is it clothing, a type of music or hair style, a tradition or way of life? What would you like to come back into fashion and why?
I'm a fan of the 80's, obviously the fashion of that time seems spectacular to me, also the way of thinking, dressing, singing and of course expressing oneself outside the conventions. That was the beginning of rebellion, people dressed the way they wanted, each tribe had its own style and that's how everyone lived together.
I think what I liked the most was that disheveled way of dressing, different from today. If I had been born in those years I could leave my hair natural and not use so much product to control the frizz.
But what I really wanted to get to in this post is one of my favorite pieces of clothing that I would love to see come back into fashion, it's leg warmers.
Back in the day they were all the rage, so leg warmers were something that normal people could wear without being judged, I mean no one cared if you were a dancer or not. You could wear them with miniskirts, with leggings, even over jeans.
I remember that in my country they came back into fashion around 2001, of course only in black colors to wear them to school. Anyway, it was there that I fell in love with this eighties garment because I could wear them, since I was not yet born when they were at their peak.
But my fanaticism was so great that I made myself some with the sleeves of a wool sweater that I found stored in some old boxes in the junk room. I was a teenager who just wanted to have her favorite garment and if I couldn't find it in the stores, I made it myself.
The bad part came later when mom found me with the sweater in pieces, she got so mad that she scolded me and also punished me for several days.
It turns out that the sweater had been given to her by an aunt she loved very much, but since she no longer wore it, she kept it so that it wouldn't get damaged over time.
How was she to know that this ugly sweater was so important, as the warmers looked so much better and gave it more life.
The last thing I want to tell you is that I admit they are pretty ordinary, especially the rainbow colored ones, but I like them anyway. Occasionally I go out on the street with some of them on thinking I'm an 80's diva and people look at me funny 馃ぃ
