Mammals come in lots of different shapes and sizes. That is partly because they have developed to survive in many different kinds of places. Here are some mammal record- breakers:
• The world's noisiest land animals are South American howler monkeys. When the male monkeys call, their screams can be heard from 16 km away.
• The world's largest land mammal is the African elephant. Adult bull elephant grow over 3 metres tall and weight about 5.7 tinned.
• cheetahs are the world's fastest animals on land. They can run up to 70km/h over 400 metres.
• The giraffe is the tallest mammals in the world. It can grow over 5 metres. It has a long neck so that it can reach leaves high up in the trees.
• Many mammals sleep for long periods. Lions sleep up to 20 hours a day.
• lions and tigers have been successfully crossed to make a new animal the ' tigon'.
