Music follows me everywhere! It dictates mood and influences creativity. It accompanies me along my cooking adventures and allows me to get lost in emotion... There really are very few moments in my days when music is not present and I am always a little perplexed at people who seem to live without it for the most part... but hey, each to their own. This post will obviously not appeal to those individuals.
Yeah, I have my own music collection and digital playlists, but like with most things in life, I tend to go in the opposite direction to most completely unintentionally. I use Deezer, not Spotify - not that it really makes any damn difference - they are essentially the same service, and are pretty even steven when it comes to most aspects of comparison, just Deezer does not have the brand influence which spotify does. They do however have a bigger library of music and better sound quality for paid users - both of those things matter to me. Anyway, not my point... lol!
My point is yes, I have my playlists on Deezer - I have party playlists, rock, pop, lounge, country and several others. The reality though, is that we always gravitate to our own tastes and also, I find I get tired of listening to my personally selected tracks. I find that it becomes a little stagnant after some time. This is one of the reasons why I love doing the Track of the Week Contest every Friday. It is SUCH an awesome way to expand your own music library. I have countless favourites in my music library now compliments of that contest.
Having said that though, with the amount of hours in a day which I listen to music, even that weekly "expansion" is not quite enough... so about a year ago, I started listening to streaming radio stations. I cannot stand traditional radio stations because not only do they talk too much, but they also repeat the same crap day after day... endlessly. Streamed radio stations have made an awesome change in my music lifestyle and I now make use of them most of the time - only flipping to my personal library every once in a while... which makes it feel fresh again. Also, I get to add a lot of the new stuff I hear to my library in the process.
Anyhoooo, I thought it would be pretty cool to share some of my favourite streaming stations with all of you - and if you have any suggestions to add in the comments, that would be awesome too! To my knowledge, most of these can be accessed via browser too, so no need for Spotify, Deezer or any other paid app. So here goes...
Who doesn't enjoy the best of everything?! From Queen, Depeche Mode, to the Beach Boys and Tina Turner this station has a bit of everything! RTL Greatest Hits was probably one of the first streaming stations I discovered and I know that @eugelys and
@notacinephile became fans themselves back our PHC server. They literally play a little bit of everything.
I am not going to lie... I love a LOT of music and my taste is exceptionally eclectic, but the old stuff is what REALLY does it for me!!! - For clarification and to bridge the generational "gap", when I say "old stuff" I am referring to the likes of Elvis Presley and others. Good 'ol fashioned 50's, 60's and a little bit of 70's. This station is a regular in my Sunday kitchen!
This channel is my "working go to". The music is not intrusive, the DJ has found a nice balance of mixing relatively well known songs into nice easy listening versions. It makes good background music and I find it good for passive productivity.
Jam chill is a station I discovered more recently, and I love it! They play a lot of 90's R&B with a few randoms thrown in between. Can't say I enjoy "todays" R&B, but I do love the old school, hip swirling goods! It's a great "feel good station and definitely worth a listen if you enjoy taking a slight step back in time.
This was also one of the first stations I started listening to... it was also how I found the above ALL ZIC chil channel. It is pretty much the same thing, but a little more up tempo. I enjoy this channel when I am "getting into writing"... it gives me that little bit of "get go" that is often needed!
This is my treadmill station! DAMN I miss my treadmill lol - but yeah, I would climb out of bed, crazy hair, panties and t-shirt and hop onto my treadmill - headphones on, volume up and this station on FULL BLAST! It is ALWAYS upbeat and "feel good" and just the right tempo for a good morning work out!
I have a few more stations I listen to on a regular basis - but these are my main "go to's". Hope you like them! Would LOVE to know what YOURS are! PS. Not sure if these stations are available on Spotify (I imagine they would be), but they are on Deezer.
❤❤❤
Until next time...
Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx
