I enjoyed your story, @thequizshow. It is very sweet and pensive. We all evaluate our lives and priorities, and whether we are headed in the right direction.
This seemed like the turning point for Margot:
The family worked the land as best they could to provide for themselves but it was often not enough. Margo wasn't like her parents, she was not strong physically and the work of the farm never called to her. Her parents could see this from an early age. She excelled at reading, writing and math.
A person with academic skills and a passion for big life pursuits who is growing up on a farm, could certainly feel like they were built for better things.
I have some words of encouragement for you! Your writing is good, your words flow beautifully, and your story is very readable. What could make it stronger is some action and dialog to bring your story to life. When you get a chance, check out our article titled Action, Dialog and Narrative: The Dynamic Trio, which is about finding a balance between all of these elements. When passages are told in action vs. in narrative, the reader becomes more involved an immersed in the story. Good luck and keep writing!
