It shouldn't be too tricky, teukuadam@teukuadam. Short stories are complete tales from "Once upon a time..." to "The end."

Here is the typical format of a story:

  1. The opening of the story describes the setting, the characters, and the conflict. For example: Three bears are eating porridge that is too hot, so they go out for a walk while the porridge cools. Meanwhile, Goldilocks is walking through the forest and finds the house with the abandoned porridge.
  2. The middle of the story describes how the characters deal with the conflict, which typically includes building suspense. For example: Goldilocks tries the three bowls of porridge, and she completely consumes the one that is just right. She also tries three chairs and breaks Baby Bear's chair. Then she finds a bed that is just right and falls asleep in Baby Bear's bed. The reader feels the sense of fear and anticipation that the bears are going to come home and discover her there. What will they do?
  3. The end of the story resolves the conflict. For example: The three bears come home. They discover that someone has eaten the porridge and broken the chair, and then they find Goldilocks in Baby Bear's bed. Goldilocks escapes the house and runs off into the woods, and they never see her again.

Does that help? As The Ink Well mentioned above, we don't accept "continuation" or "chapter stories" in The Ink Well. The story must be complete from beginning to end. See rule #1 in our community rules at the top of our home page:

"We are a short story community. Please ONLY post fictional and creative nonfiction stories. No poetry, chapter stories, or serial fiction."

You may finish this story if you would like us to curate it, by editing your post above. Please do not publish the story in pieces in separate posts. Thank you!
