Wow, @rootdraws, that is quite the formula! As a writer of literary fiction this appeals to me from a certain angle. I wouldn't follow the recipe exactly, in other words, as I'm not a genre writer and don't want to develop a fast, rinse-repeat type of methodology. But I think literary fiction writers tend to miss out on some of the benefits of formula writing and genre writing. We're slower to produce, slower to publish, and tend to get so caught up in writing breathtaking prose that we forget that at the end of the day there is a business aspect to this writing life. We have to think about sales and marketing too.
