I love stories about neighbors. They are so ripe for exploration because it's such an arbitrary relationship, and the possibilities for hilarious or disturbing conflict are endless. (In fact, I have a story in circulation with prospective publishers right now called Neighbors.)
I really liked how Janine changed in this story. She started out as a two-dimensional cliché, but then when she hears Sammy's story, she comes to life. In fact, that's when I really got interested, and would have loved the story to be a bit longer!
