Oh my gosh, @itsostylish. What a treasure trove of information you've uncovered. This is fascinating.
Sadly, Gertrude only discovered his true identity after the War Office sent her a telegram with the ill news of his death.
Can you imagine the shock? The husband she married was now dead, and had a different name and a full family lineage in Britain, and she was pregnant with his child.
I find this lineage stuff so addicting. As I have time, I have been tracing my family roots and it is so fascinating. (Yes, I pay a monthly fee for the privilege!)
I think that they’ve stolen my heritage and that they require a fee from me to access data that, clearly, belongs to me.
Ugh. It's terrible, isn't it?
