This happens to every child in one way or another — realizing that some myth they firmly believed in (like the baby Jesus or Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny bringing them special things) is not true. Perhaps it helps children prepare for other losses in their lives to make that discovery and go through the feelings of grief and loss. It's nice that the gift still appeared, even though you had learned the truth!

We continue to give special gifts to our kids at Christmas from Santa, even though they are now in their 20's!
