Wednesday Walk - sunset, ducks and an icy lake - Actifit: December 1 2021
I walked near one of my favorite lakes, looking for some nice shots of the water and the setting sun.
Where you see that some of the lake surface looks cloudy, that is ice forming. It’s happening quite slowly this year. But about a month from now I’ll be able to share pictures from the middle of the lake.
I love looking out on the lake at that time of day. It’s serene and makes me feel pensive about life.
After a while I noticed some birds on the water. I couldn’t tell if they were ducks or loons at first.
So I walked down onto the docks to get a closer look. There I could see that it was a pair of Mallards. In this next picture, you can see how they can already stand on the paper thin sheet of ice.
I had startled them, and they squawked at me and fluttered then swam away.
The sun was setting! I captured photos as well as I could in the fading light.
I had nearly given up on seeing any splendid sunset colors, but I walked out around the point where I could see true west over the lake, and there it was — my beautiful sunset!
